MENOMONIE, Wis. (February 6, 2010) - UW-Stout went on a 28-5 run late in the second half to turn a tight game into a blowout, as they defeated UW-Oshkosh, 70-48, Saturday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The run started midway through the second period, when Stout (12-9, 7-6 WIAC) came up with steals on three consecutive Oshkosh (9-12, 4-9 WIAC) possessions, turning them into nine points of their own.  Just minutes later, Jordan Nelson (So, Maple Grove, Minn.) hit two straight three-pointers to put his team up by 22, sealing the victory.

Stout's breakaway came after a tightly contested first 30 minutes of play in which neither team led by more than six points.  Points were hard to come by in the first half.  A 28-26 halftime score was due to Stout's 1-7 from beyond the arc, and Oshkosh's 10-for-31 from the field, including 3-for-13 from three.

Eric Hostetter (Jr, Hostetter, Minn.) led all players with 18 points.  Mahlon Thomas (Jr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.), who threw down a one-handed dunk in the second half, added 13 points for the Blue Devils.  D.J. Marsh, who came into the game averaging over 22 points, was held to just eight, but led all players with 10 rebounds.

With the win, Stout moves into third place, past UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse, who each lost today.  Stout will return to action, Wednesday, when they travel to UW-Superior.
