Eagles beat Blue Devils from downtown

UW-La Crosse 89, UW-Stout 69

LA CROSSE (December 8, 2010) - UW-La Crosse ripped a page out of the UW-Stout playbook and drained 19 three-point field goals on their way to an 89-69 win over the Blue Devils Wednesday at Mitchell Hall.

The Eagles (4-6, 1-2) dropped in 11 three-pointers in the first half on their way to a 41-28 halftime lead. Tony Mane, who scored eight points in the first half, rolled up 29 second half points for the Eagles, connecting on 7-of-12 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles' 19 bombs is one short of the conference record of 20 set earlier this year by Stout against Crown College.

Stout's (4-4, 1-2) last lead of the game came six minutes into the first half, an 11-10 advantage after a bucket by Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn).  Over the next six minutes, La Crosse went on a 17-4 run. Stout made a run at the Eagles in the second half, getting as close as 44-37 at 17:28 by coming out of the locker room on a 9-3 run, but that would be it.

The Blue Devils had four players in double figures. Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) led Stout with 15 points, Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn) had 13, Jerrod Buchholtz (Sr, Durand) 11 and Mahlon Thomas 10 points. Stout shot 23-61 (37.7 percent) from the floor, 8-23 from 3-point range, and 15-25 from the line.

La Crosse's Mane paced all players with 37 points, hitting 11-24 from the floor, 7-12 from 3-point range and all eight attempts from the line. Luke Tweed had 15 points, with all of his points coming from 3-point range, and Jeff Heldon came off the bench to score 12 points.  The Eagles shot 30-66 (45.5 percent) from the floor, 19-40 from 3-point range and 10-17 from the line.

Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.
