Augustana College 81, UW-Stout 75
DE PERE (December 29, 2010) - UW-Stout rallied from a 15 point deficit midway through the second half, but could not overcome 10th ranked Augustana College in the opening game of the Nicolet National Bank Tournament at St. Norbert College Wednesday,
The Vikings held as much as a 61-45 lead with 11 minutes left in the second half and Stout got the score to as close as two points several times in the final two minutes but could not close the gap and Augustana took an 81-75 win.
Several times Stout got the score differential under 10 points, but the Vikings would answer and push back to a 12-14 point lead.
Alex Oman (Fr, Lake Elmo, Minn) started what would be an 11-1 run with around five minutes left to play when he popped in 3-pointer bucket to pull Stout to within 72-63.
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) added a lay-up, Oman dropped in a pair of free throws,
Jay Higgins (Fr, Maple Grove, Minn) scored a lay-up with three minutes left and
Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn) notched a couple of charity shots at 1:49 as Stout pulled to within 73-71.
With Stout forced to foul, the Vikings were cool at the free throw line, making all eight of their charity attempts in the final 40 seconds of play to notch the win.
Stout was led by Oman with a career-high 17 points. Hostetter contributed 13 points and
Steve Pax (Fr, Elmwood) finished with 11 points.
The Vikings got 20 points from Kyle Nelson, 16 from Bryant Voiles, 11 from Troy Rorer and 10 from Brian DeSimone.
Stout will play the either St. Norbert or Lakeland College in the consolation game, Thursday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m.
