MENOMONIE (November 27, 2010) -
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn.) continued his hot streak by scoring 28 points as the UW-Stout Blue Devils easily handled Northland, 92-51, on the first day of the Turkey Shootout at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Hostetter, who came up one point shy of tying his career high, scored 17 in the first half and had scored all 28 with 15 minutes still left on the clock.
The two teams battled for the first 10 minutes of the game. Stout (3-1) jumped out to a six point lead after five minutes, but Northland (0-3) tightened up on defense and drew within two points with 10 minutes remaining. Hostetter hit back-to-back three point attempts to put the Blue Devils up by seven.
Jake Polk (Fr, Montello) followed shortly after with a three of his own to give Stout their largest lead of the game, 30-18.
Leading by eight with four and a half minutes to play, Stout went on an 11-1 run to finish off the half, taking an 18-point lead and all the momentum into the locker rooms.
The Blue Devils went on a 12-2 run right away in the second half to take a 29-point lead, sealing the game for good. The Lumberjacks could not cut their deficit to less than 30 the rest of the game and the Blue Devils cruised to victory.
Hostetter and
Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all players with eight rebounds apiece. Thomas added 11 points. Hostetter shot 9-12, including 7-9 from beyond the arc.
Stout will play the University of Sioux Falls tomorrow at approximately 5 p.m. in the championship game of the Quality Inn Turkey Shootout.
