Bemidji State 89, UW-Stout 87
BEMIDJI, Minn (November 23, 2010) - UW-Stout's
Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) scored a game-high 24 points, but Bemidji State had six players score in double-digits to hand the Blue Devils their first loss of the season, an 89-87 squeaker at the Bemidji State University Gymnasium Tuesday.
The NCAA Division II Beavers a couple of times shot out to double digit leads, but Stout always managed to pull back to even or go ahead by a point or two.
The Beavers (2-1) held a 44-42 halftime lead, then pulled out to as much an 11 point lead three minutes into the second half.
But the Blue Devils (2-1) chipped away at the lead by going on a 17-5 run to pull ahead 61-60 as Hostetter poured in seven points in the run and Jerrod Bucholtz (Sr, Durand) added six points.
The game was never more than a four-point differential until Stout pulled ahead 87-81 with two minutes left. Bemidji got a pair of 3-pointers from Bryce Tesdahl and Pat Cassidy to tied the game with a minute left. The Blue Devils missed a 3-pointer as the clock wound down, then fouled Cassidy, who drained both freebies for the win.
Buchholtz finished the game with 15 points, while
Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) added 14 and
Erik Olson (So, Buffalo, Minn) finished with 10 points while playing the entire 40 minutes.
The Beavers got 18 points from Cassidy and 13 points each from Jake Lindstrom, Noah Sheperd and James Ellisor. Tesdahl had 11 points and Burke Lendl tossed in 10 points. Ellisor had 11 rebounds.
Stout will host Northland College, Saturday, Nov. 27 in the 7 p.m. game of the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout.
