UW-Whitewater 66, UW-Stout 54
WHITEWATER (February 7, 2009) - UW-Stout had four players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as UW-Whitewater also had four double figure scores and went on to defeat the Blue Devils 66-54 Saturday at Kachel Gym.
Stout (7-15, 1-11) got double digit scoring from Eric Hostetter (So, Stillwater, Minn), dropped in 13 points, Mahlon Thomas (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) who had 12 points, Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Jr, Anoka, Minn) with 11 points and Drew Kramer (Fr, Anoka, Minn), who had a collegiate-best 10 points.
Whitewater (18-3, 10-2) was led by Kori Vernon with 16 points. Myles McKay contributed 14 points, Dustin Mitchell had 12 points and Matt Goodwin, 10.
Whitewater had a 30-25 halftime lead.
Both teams shot about the same from the field and from 3-point range. Stout was 22-of-53 (.415) from the floor and 3-of-15 (.200) from long distance. The Warhawks hit 23-of-52 (.442) from the floor and 3-of-13 (.231) from 3-point range. The Warhawks held a marked difference from the free throw line, canning 17-of-24 free throws (.708), while Stout was only 7-of-11 (.636) from the line, a 10 point swing.
Stout will be at UW-Superior, Wednesday, Feb. 11, then will host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Feb. 14.
