MENOMONIE, Wis. (December 5, 2009) - UW-Stout hung with seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater for much of the game, but a late run from the free throw line by the Warhawks earned them a 62-57 win, Saturday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Stout held the lead only twice - once early in the game and again with two minutes left in the contest - but the Blue Devils made the Warhawks sweat out the entire second half and much of the first half.

Things did not look good for the Blue Devils midway through the first period, as they found themselves in a 25-15 hole.  Stout battled back, cutting the deficit to five points at halftime.  Eric Hostetter (Jr, Stillwater, Minn.), who scored a game-high 18 points, helped fuel the run by adding 11 of his points in the first half.

After Whitewater stretched their lead to nine shortly after the break, Stout went on a four-minute, 9-0 run to tie the game at 39.  A layup by Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Sr, Anoka, Minn.) gave Stout a 57-56 lead with two minutes remaining in the game, their first lead of the second half.

Whitewater, however, finished the next two minutes on a 6-0 run, fueled mainly by five DJ Dantzler free throws.

Four Whitewater players scored in double digits as the Warhawks used primarily a seven-man rotation.  Enerson-Matthews added 13 points, while Jerrod Buchholtz (Jr, Durand) led all players with seven rebounds.

Stout will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 9 when they play host to UW-La Crosse.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse.
