Wis-Stevens Point 80, Wis-Stout 59
STEVENS POINT (December 2, 2009) - UW-Stevens Point closed out the first half on a 24-6 run and went on to an 80-59 win over UW-Stout in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener Wednesday at Bennett Court.
After shooting 33 percent in the first half, Stout (3-3, 0-1) warmed up considerably in the second half, shooting 68 percent, but the deficit was too big as fifth ranked Stevens Point (6-0, 1-0) recorded as many field goals in the second half as Stout.
Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Sr, Anoka, Minn) led Stout's second half charge, scoring 16 second half points and finished with a game-high and season-high 21 points.
Grant Franzen (Sr, Waverly, Iowa) finished with 12 points.
The Pointers were led by four players in double digits. Jared Jenkins scored 16 points. Louis Hurd tossed in 14 points, all in the first half, and Scott Hoelzel finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dan Tillema contributed 13 points.
Stout will host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will host UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Dec. 9.
