Stout men win in first round, 91-52

MENOMONIE, Wis. (November 28, 2009)
- UW-Stout jumped out to a very large, early lead, and went on to defeat Northland College, 91-52, in the first round of the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (3-1) got up to a 15-0 lead before the Lumberjacks (1-3) scored their first points.  Stout then went on a 16-0 run to take an insurmountable 31-1 lead, midway through the first half. 

Northland chipped away at the lead, getting their deficit down to 21, but could get no closer as Stout went on to finish the rout.

Stout's Eric Hostetter (Jr, Stillwater, Minn.) and Northland's Michael Mackey each recorded a game-high 15 points, while senior transfer Grant Franze* (Waverly, Iowa) led all players with seven rebounds.

Stout shot 45 percent from the field on the night, while holding the Lumberjacks to 30 percent.

Northland will meet up with Marian University in the consolation game tomorrow, while the Blue Devils will face Mt. Mercy College in the championship game.  Game times are scheduled as 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
