Moses leads Point to win over Blue Devils

UW-Stevens Point 78, UW-Stout 58

STEVENS POINT  (January 14, 2009) - UW-Stout stayed with the fourth ranked UW-Stevens Point Pointers for nearly 30 minutes, but in the end, the Pointers prevailed with a 78-58 win over the Blue Devils at Quandt Fieldhouse Wednesday.

Behind nine first half points by Mahlon Thomas (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) and eight by Eric Hostetter (So, Stillwater, Minn), the Blue Devils (5-9, 0-6) took a 30-28 halftime lead.

The teams tied three times over the first six minutes of the second half, but the Pointers (13-2, 6-0) went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes and were not seriously threatened again. Stout (5-9, 0-6) was outscored 50-28 in the second half.

It was the Pointers' Matt Moses who racked up the majority of the second half damage. Moses scored all 32 of his points in the second. Moses attempted only two first half shots, missing both, but could hardly miss in the second half, draining 11-of-13 from the floor 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 7-of-9 from the line. No other Pointer was in double figures.

Stout got 18 points from Hostetter. Thomas finished the night with 11 points and 11 rebounds and John Donald (Sr, Milwaukee) had 10 points.

Stout kicks off a three-game homestand when they host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, Jan. 21 and UW-Platteville, Saturday, Jan. 24.
