WAVERLY, Iowa (November 21, 2008) - Bethany Lutheran's Jeff Zimmerman made a 30-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to defeat UW-Stout, 84-83, Friday at the Buzz Levick/Pizza Ranch Tipoff Tournament at Wartburg College.
Stout (0-2) trailed by as much as 10 points in the first half, but stormed back to take as much as a 16 point lead with seven minutes left on the clock.
But Stout was outscored 15-4 in the final three minutes of the game, setting up Zimmerman's winning shot.
Stout had five players in double figures with Edy Jensen (Jr, St. Paul, Minn) leading the way with 18 points. Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Jr, Anoka, Minn) finished with 14 points. Jerrod Buchholtz (So, Durand) and Mahlon Thomas (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) tossed in the 11 points and John Donald (Sr, Milwaukee) had 10 points.
Bethany (2-1) got 30 points from Zimmerman to lead all scorers. Tommy Saffert added 28 and Andy Willis finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Stout will play Rockford College Saturday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. in the consolation game. Rockford lost to Wartburg, 73-69.
Wartburg is planning to make an audio broadcast of all games available, but the school is also planning IT maintenance throughout the weekend, so any webcast services are tentative. KWAR-FM, a student station, is planning to broadcast the games. The service did not work on Friday.
