MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. — Cameron Lipinski tied the UW-Stout school record with a 7-under-par 65 in the final round, leading the University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Minnesota Golf Classic Monday at Pioneer Creek Golf Course.
The Blue Devils finished the 54-hole tournament with an even-par 864 (293-291-280), finishing second behind Bethel University. Stout's final-round 280 was 8-under par, setting a new school record for the lowest team score in a single round. The previous record of 7-under was set earlier this season.
Lipinski finished tied for first individually at 10-under 206 (72-69-65), matching the UW-Stout school record for a single round with his 65. His final-round 65 was the lowest score of the tournament.
Competing in a field that included 25 Division I golfers, Lipinski finished ahead of 24 of the 25 Division I competitors. He finished tied with Georgia's Jackson Byrd for the individual title, with both players carding 206's.
Nick Buckman finished tied for 33rd at 219 (+3), shooting rounds of 75, 72 and 72.
Casey Peters tied for 48th at 222 (+6) with rounds of 75, 76 and 71.
Andrew Bauer placed 55th at 223 (+7), carding rounds of 71, 80 and 72, while
Ayrton Longe finished 62nd at 228 (+12) with rounds of 80, 74 and 74.
Stout opened the tournament with a 293 (+5) before shooting a 291 (+3) in the second round. The Blue Devils closed with a 280 (-8), the program's lowest single-round score.
The Blue Devils are off until Oct. 4-5 when they host The Grand Intercollegiate in Lake Geneva, Wis. at the Grand Geneva Resort.
