LaVoise McCoy to Lead Flag Football, Coach Defensive Backs for Blue Devils

MENOMONIE – University of Wisconsin-Stout Director of Athletics Erin Sullivan has announced the hiring of LaVoise-Deontae McCoy as head coach of the Blue Devil women's flag football program. McCoy will also serve as an assistant coach with the Blue Devil football team, working with the defensive backs.

"We are thrilled to announce LaVoise McCoy as our head flag football coach," Sullivan said. "LaVoise brings a unique background and understanding of the sport, along with a strong commitment to the student-athlete experience. We are excited about the vision and leadership he will bring to our program."

McCoy will enter his first season as head flag football coach and defensive backs coach in 2026.

A native of Flossmoor, Ill., McCoy was a four-year letterwinner at Illinois State University and a standout linebacker in the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC). He appeared in 45 games, making 39 starts, and totaled 238 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks.

As a senior in 2024, McCoy started all 12 games and ranked fourth in the MVFC with 107 tackles while adding 10.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He recorded four double-digit tackle games and added five pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. In 2023, he totaled 74 tackles with 2.5 sacks and two interceptions.

Prior to Illinois State, McCoy earned all-conference, all-area, and all-state honors at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, where he was named SouthWest Suburban Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Following his playing career, McCoy returned to Homewood-Flossmoor High School for one season on the coaching staff.
