Blue Devil Softball Splits Final Day of Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Stout softball team split a pair of games Thursday to wrap up their spring break trip to the sunshine state. Stout dropped a five inning game to Coe College in game one before bouncing back with a decisive win over SUNY Geneseo in game two.

Game 1: Coe 16, UW-Stout 2 (5 inn.)
The Blue Devils struggled to slow Coe's offense in the opener, as the Kohawks used a big eight-run fourth inning to pull away for a 16-2 victory in five innings.

Stout collected six hits in the contest but was unable to keep pace with Coe's 14-hit attack. Coe scored multiple runs in four of the five innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and drawing six walks.

UW-Stout's runs came on and RBI single by Katie Monroe in the second inning and home run to left by MacyJean Cain.

Game 2: UW-Stout 12, SUNY Geneseo 2 (5 inn.)
The Blue Devils responded in a big way in the nightcap, erupting for 12 runs on 14 hits in a 12-2 run-rule win over SUNY Geneseo.

Stout's offense was explosive from the start, scoring in four of the five innings, including a four-run third and a four-run fifth to seal the win.

Elly Holden led the offensive surge with a dominant performance at the plate, driving in six runs on four hits, including a double and two triples. Payton Dolecki added a strong outing, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Rayni Bresnahan chipped in an RBI and reached base twice.

In the circle, Olivia Ott earned the win in relief, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings while striking out five and limiting Geneseo's offense.

The Blue Devils will take the week off and return to action on March 28th when they head to Duluth, Minn. for a doubleheader with the College of St. Scholastica.
