Menomonie, Wis.- The Blue Devils softball team continued their season, splitting a doubleheader with St. Scholastica. Stout dropped the opener 3-4 in seven innings before exploding for a 9-1 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
Game 1 – St. Scholastica 4, Wisconsin-Stout 3 St. Scholastica scored twice in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take an early 2-0 lead. Stout chipped away with single runs in the third (Stephanie Kuhn scored on Sarah Wilkins' RBI groundout), fourth (Adi Singer scored on Donna D'Addabbo's RBI single), and sixth (Emma Fortier scored on Rayni Bresnahan's RBI single) to tie the game at 3-3.
The Saints answered in the bottom of the seventh. Lindsey Ewer led off with a single, moved to third on a wild pitch and a hit-by-pitch to Sami Ernst, and scored on Kaylei Greene's RBI single to give St. Scholastica the 4-3 walk-off win.
Both teams pounded out 11 hits. Aleah Shogren threw a complete game for the Saints, allowing three runs on 11 hits. For Stout, Samantha Bergeron, Kennedy Hodgman, and Olivia Ott combined to allow four runs. Donna D'Addabbo and MacyJean Cain each had two hits, while Stephanie Kuhn, Payton Dolecki, and Adi Singer added two hits apiece.
Game 2 – Wisconsin-Stout 9, St. Scholastica 1 (5 innings) Stout erupted for nine runs on 12 hits to cruise to the run-rule victory. After a scoreless first, the Blue Devils plated three runs in the second (Elly Holden RBI double, MacyJean Cain sacrifice fly, Donna D'Addabbo RBI double), added another in the third on Payton Dolecki's RBI double, and then exploded for five runs in the fourth.
Donna D'Addabbo went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Stephanie Kuhn added a two-RBI double, and Payton Dolecki finished with three hits and two RBI. Jennalyn Mallmann was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game five-inning shutout effort (one unearned run allowed) on four hits with one strikeout.
