CLERMONT, Fla. - The UW-Stout softball team continued its strong play during the Florida trip on Sunday, March 15, sweeping a pair of games with a come-from-behind extra-inning victory over Framingham State in the opener and a convincing win over McDaniel in the nightcap. The Blue Devils improve to 9-5 overall with the doubleheader sweep.
Game 1: Wis.-Stout 7, Framingham State 6 (8 innings) The Blue Devils built an early lead, surrendered it in the middle innings, then rallied for a thrilling walk-off win in eight innings against Framingham State.
Stout jumped out to a 4-0 advantage with two runs apiece in the first and second innings. Framingham State responded with three runs in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Blue Devils tacked on one more in the fourth for a 5-3 lead, but the Rams tied it with single runs in the fifth and sixth. After a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra innings.
Framingham State pushed across one run in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead. In the bottom half, Stout's placed runner,
Sammy Noreen, advanced to third on
Adi Singer's sacrifice bunt.
Donna D'Addabbo delivered a tying RBI single up the middle to score Noreen (6-6).
Rayni Bresnahan followed with a single to advance pinch-runner
Mattie Schilling (for D'Addabbo) to second.
Stephanie Kuhn then ripped the game-winning RBI single up the middle, plating Schilling for the 7-6 victory.
Stout was led offensively by Kuhn (two hits, two RBI, including the walk-off),
Payton Dolecki (two hits, two runs, amd a RBI), D'Addabbo (a hit, two runs, and an RBI),
Sarah Wilkins (one hit, two RBI), and
Abbey Dusterhoft (hit and  RBI). The Blue Devils outhit Framingham State 10-7 and committed no errors.
In the circle, Wilkins started and went 3.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.
Olivia Ott earned the win in relief, tossing 5.0 innings and giving up just one earned run with 3 strikeouts.
Game 2: Wis.-Stout 13, McDaniel 4 Stout exploded for eight runs over the first two innings and never looked back in a decisive 13-4 victory over McDaniel.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and piled on five more in the second for an 8-0 advantage. McDaniel scratched across runs later, but Stout added insurance with two in the sixth and three more in the seventh to seal the win.
Payton Dolecki starred at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple, five RBI (including a three-run triple in the seventh that helped close out the game), two runs scored, two stolen bases, and a walk.
Donna D'Addabbo was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI, and a hit-by-pitch.
Rayni Bresnahan reached base four times (2-for-3, BB, HBP, three runs scored).
Stephanie Kuhn added a double, an RBI, three runs, and a stolen base. Jennalyn Mallamnn tossed a complete game to earn the win.
