Blue Devils Open Season Strong at Toni St. Pierre Invitational

COLD SPRING, Minn. – The UW-Stout men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2025 season with impressive second-place finishes at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5. The Blue Devil women scored 53 points, just behind Saint Benedict (41), while the men tallied 34 points in a tight battle with Saint John's (Minn.) (32).

Women's Race
The UW-Stout women were led by junior Claudia Lasiowski, who captured the individual title in the 5K race with a personal-best time of 18:26.2, setting the tone for a strong team performance. Junior Jessi Salimes (19:38.3 PR) and senior Arlie Kapaun (19:48.8 PR) followed closely in seventh and eighth places, respectively, providing key scoring depth. Freshman Alexys Smith (20:36.9) and freshman Charli Oeltjen (20:43.6) rounded out the top five scorers in 18th and 21st.

Junior Bryanna Hoffman (20:53.1 PR) and senior Emily Fisher (21:04.6) served as strong displacers in 25th and 27th, helping secure the team's position ahead of Northwestern-St. Paul (62), UW-Superior (106), and St. Catherine (Minn.) (111). Other notable Blue Devil finishes included sophomore Jorie Anderson (21:17.0, 34th), junior Madison Jacklitch (21:29.8, 36th), sophomore Teagan McGinty (21:38.5 PR, 38th), sophomore Madison Wegand (22:05.3 PR, 49th), sophomore Lindy Cordes (22:18.7, 52nd), and senior Sam Padrnos (22:32.4 PR, 58th).

Men's Race
On the men's side, the Blue Devils nearly claimed the team title, falling just two points short of Saint John's. Junior Mason Aide paced UW-Stout with a third-place finish in 15:55.5, followed by junior Julian Van Antwerp (16:03.8, fifth) and sophomore John Nehmzow (16:08.5 PR, sixth). Sophomore Kyle Newton (16:23.3 PR, ninth) and sophomore Alexander Burmeister (16:23.9 PR, 11th) completed the scoring lineup.

Sophomore August Arnold (16:25.9 PR, 13th) and senior Mateo Meza-Melendez (16:35.5, 15th) provided crucial displacement. Additional highlights included junior Joe Huber III (16:47.2, 18th), freshman Yahye Mohamed (16:47.9, 19th), freshman Peter Cimino (16:48.2, 20th), freshman Blake Patterson (16:49.6, 21st), sophomore Alex Chartrand (16:53.5 PR, 22nd), freshman Niko Dayment (16:53.8, 23rd), freshman Tyce Xiong (16:59.0, 27th), sophomore Westin Fisher (17:00.1, 28th), freshman Dalton Anderson (17:05.9, 31st), freshman Cole Remiger (17:27.9, 37th), freshman Aidan Apa (17:38.8, 40th), and freshman Walter Strait (17:56.2, 42nd).

UW-Stout outdistanced UW-Superior (69) and Northwestern-St. Paul (107) in the four-team field.

The Blue Devils return to action on Sept. 20 when they race at the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Minn.
