KOHLER, Wis. – Julia Imai finished eighth in the women's individual field at the PGA Works Championship at Whistling Straits on Wednesday (May 7).
Imai posted a 54-hole total of 238, 22-over par, in demanding conditions, with two of the three rounds of the tournament played on the famous Straits Course, which has hosted three PGA Championships and the 2021 Ryder Cup.
On day one on the Straits course she carded a 77, with was the fifth best score of the opening round. She shot a 78 on the Irish course in round two and with extremely difficult, windy conditions in Wednesday's final round, Imai carded a 11-over 83 to finish eighth overall as the top NCAA Division III or II finisher.
NCAA Division I Delaware's Hyunji Kim, who claimed women's individual medalist honors on the first playoff hole over Nebraska's Miu Takahashi after posting a 54-hole total of 223.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf, annually hosts student-athletes enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and other Minority-Serving Educational Institutions. 184 students and student-athletes from 65 schools competed in 2024.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) was created in 1986 to highlight competitive golf programs at the most underserved and underrepresented Minority-Serving Institutions in the country, and educate and inspire student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the business of golf and beyond. PWCC is considered the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf (75% of 2024 players identified as "non-white").
The Championship is a 54-hole, stroke-play event contested across five divisions from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
