THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: April 7-13

SOFTBALL

The Blue Devils split a doubleheader with St. Catherine’s, winning 12-3 and falling 3-2. 

Anna Blanford allowed just three runs in 9.2 innings over two games at St. Kates. She scattered six hits, four strike outs and one unearned run in 3.1 innings of relief in game one to earn the win. In game two, she went 6.1 allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out three. 

Donna D’Addabbo went 3-7 (Avg .429, OB% .556, Slug% .571) with 3 RBI, a double, and two runs scored.

Stout will host UW-Superior on Tuesday, April 8 in a double header on Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

The Blue Devils rolled to a four-game sweep of UW-Eau Claire, outscoring the Blugolds 59-21. Stout wone 5-3 and 17-6 (8inn) on Saturday and then won 12-8 and 25-4 on Sunday. 

Justin Sedin went 8-16 (.500 Batting average, .600 On Base %, and 1.063 Slug%) with 3 home runs, 10 RBI and 8 runs scored. He worked 3 walks and was hit by a pitch. Fielding, he had 20 put outs and no errors.  Twice he went 3-4. In game two on Saturday, he went 3-4 with 3 rbi and 3 runs scored with 2 HR. In game two on Sunday, he went 3-4 with 4 RBI and runs scored and another HR. He is up to 19th in the nation in total HRs

In his start against the Blugolds, Drew Buss delivered a masterful outing, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight batters. he held the Blugolds hitless through 5.2 innings picking up the win in a 5-3 victory for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils will travel to River Falls, Wis. on Wednesday, April 9 for a mid-week doubleheader with the Falcons. Then will head to Stevens Point, Wis. for a four game weekend series with the Pointers. 

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The Blue Devils opened the outdoor track and field season at the Ashton May Invitational at UW-La Crosse. 

Aubree Koenigns finished in the top-5 in three events. Her shot put of 12.11 meters placed fifth.  She placed third in the discus with a personal best 44.43 meter throw (Which is fourth best in the region). And was fourth in the hammer with a throw of 47.39-meters. 

 

The Blue Devils will be back in action next weekend when they compete in two meets. On Friday and Saturday April 11-12 Stout will compete at the UW-Platteville Invitational. On Saturday April 12 Stout will run at the Bethel Invitational in St Paul, Minn.

LACROSSE

The Blue Devils defeated UW-Stevens Point 10-9 in overtime and fell 13-6 on the road at Hamline. 

Lilly Thomas scored four goals including the game winner vs UWSP. Mai Nou Vang leads the team with 31 points, 21 goals and 10 assists. 

Goalie Emilia Bullock is leading the WIAC in saves percentage and is second in goals against average. 

Stout will host Southwestern University on Friday, April 11 at 1 p.m. and then No. 19 Colorado College on Sunday at 10 a.m. 

WOMEN'S GOLF

The UW-Stout women's golf team competed at the Wartburg Spring Invite on April 4-5, 2025, finishing 9th out of 16 teams at Prairie Links Golf Course. The par-72, 5667-yard layout challenged the field over two days, with the Blue Devils posting a team total of 638 (+62) across rounds of 303 and 335.

The Blue Devils will look to build on this performance at their next event on Saturday and Sunday April 12-13 in Normal, Ill. at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling. 

FLAG FOOTBALL

The UW-Stout flag football team kicked off their season in dominant fashion, securing two resounding wins. In their first game ever, Stout topped the University of Northwestern 42-8, starting strong with Kate Holst dashing 45 yards for a touchdown on the very first play. Holst added another TD in the opener, finishing with two scores to lead the way. The momentum carried into the second game, where Stout shut out Gustavus Adolphus College 61-0.

Offensively, Mia Schmoll stood out, racking up four touchdowns in the second game while also shining on defense. Amanda Giesen, Adalyn Lehman, and quarterback Allison Letcher were key contributors to the potent attack. Defensively, the team was relentless, surrendering just one touchdown all day. They snagged two interceptions in the first game and an impressive five in the second, with Adeline Lund returning one for a touchdown and adding another pick. Mia Brunelli led the team in tackles, supported by Cassie Santelman and Schmoll, as the defense stifled both opponents.

Stout will host a flag football jamboree on Saturday, April 12 at 12 p.m.

TENNIS

The Blue Devils split a pair of games this week. Defeating Ripon College 4-3 and falling at home to Saint Mary’s 3-4.

 Stout will return to action on Saturday, April 13, hosting a triangular against UW-River Falls and nationally-ranked No. 33 Gustavus Adolphus.
