Menomonie, WI – The University of Wisconsin Stout's Esports team has been competing in a regional Esports tournament, Kato Clash, hosted by Minnesota State University – Mankato. This tournament features mostly teams from around the Midwest but also includes a few teams from outside the Midwest. This tournament features Overwatch 2, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game titles.
This tournament consists of 7 weeks of online matches to determine the top 8 teams in each game title to attend the end of season LAN tournament hosted at MNSU in Mankato, MN.
Overwatch 2:
The Overwatch 2 team started the season strong with four straight victories over Minnesota State Mankato, University of Nevada Las Vegas, University of Cincinnati, and Carthage College. In week 5, the Blue Devils were finally challenged for that top spot, eventually losing to Texas A&M University San Antonio. They went on to defeat Coe College and Dakota State University to end their season 6-1 overall. With a 6-1 overall record, the Blue Devils have earned the #2 overall seed in the playoff bracket.
Rocket League:
The Blue Devils Rocket League team defeated Wayne State College to start their season but fell to MNSU in round 2. After the loss, the Blue Devils went on a 5-game winning streak beating Central Community College, Northern Michigan Green, Illinois College, Northwestern College, and Northern Michigan Yellow to end their season with a 6-1 record. The Rocket League team has also earned the #2 seed overall heading into the playoff tournament!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:
In another strong showing the SSBU team started their regular season with three wins over University of Northern Iowa, Northcentral University, and UW-Green Bay. The Blue Devils were stumped by Michigan Technological University in a close battle during week 4. After the loss, the Blue Devils went on another winning streak, defeating Illinois College, UW-Eau Claire and Minnesota State JV. The SSBU team also finished their regular season 6-1, and earning the #2 overall seed for the final playoff bracket!
These Blue Devils Esports teams will travel to Mankato, MN on November 22-23 to play these tournament brackets against other strong teams in the Midwest! You will be able to tune into the action during the tournament here:
