Box Score MENOMONIE (November 16, 2024) - In a very back and forth game, the Pioneers of Platteville beat the Blue Devils with a score of 46-38. The Pioneer win gives Platteville the lone WIAC Conference title.
To start the game, UW-Stout (6-4, 4-3 WIAC) received the first kick and on their first possession, started on their own 14 yard line. The Blue Devils took 14 plays and 7:18 to get on the scoreboard first.
Adam Moen rushed it two yards for the touchdown to make the game 7-0.
#9 UW-Platteville (9-1, 6-1 WIAC) first possession answered back when Michael Priami threw it to Ryan Doherty to tie the game at 7-7 with 3:02 left in the first quarter.
The Blue Devil's next possession went into the second quarter and ended with a
Luke Cool 26 yard field goal to have Stout regain the lead at 10-7.
Next possession for the Pioneers ended with another Priami throwing touchdown, this time to Brandt Stare for a two yard touchdown. During the extra point, Stout blocked the kick to have the score remain at 13-10.
With 6:48 left in the quarter, Blue Devil's Quarterback Moen threw a pass on third down to
Patrick Corcoran. Corcoran caught it and ran into the endzone for a 23 yard touchdown reception to make the game 17-13 in favor of Stout.
With time winding down in the first half, Platteville took an 11 play drive to the endzone that ended with a Priami one yard rushing touchdown. After the touchdown, the Pioneers missed their second extra point of the game to keep the game at 19-17.
Both teams had a possession after the Platteville touchdown with 1:38 left in the half, but both teams could not gain momentum and the score remained 19-17 with the Pioneers leading going into half time.
The Pioneers received the second half kickoff and on the second play of the half, Blue Devil's
Richie Murphy intercepted Priami on a tipped ball with 14:39 left in the quarter.
After the turnover, Blue Devil's Moen rushed in and scored a two yard touchdown run to regain the lead at 24-19.
Platteville's next possession ended with a reverse rushing touchdown by Stare. The Pioneers went for the two point conversion, but was unsuccessful and the scoreboard read 25-24 in favor of the Pioneers.
Stout's
Chase Hughes took a handoff and rushed it for a 29 yard touchdown run to take back the lead at 31-25 with 4:07 left in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Platteville was facing a third down and goal situation from the 12 yard line. Priami found Stare in the endzone and the Pioneers took the lead at 32-31.
With the Blue Devils trailing, Stout received the kickoff, but fumbled the ball and the Pioneers jumped on it to regain possession. During the possession after the fumble, Platteville faced a fourth and seven on the nine yard line. On the fourth down play, Priami found Stare once again for the nine yard touchdown to make the game 39-31.
After the scoring play by the Pioneers, the Blue Devil's offense went three and out and had to punt it away.
Platteville was running out the clock and eventually scored. Priami threw another touchdown pass to Stare, this time from one yard out to make the game 46-31.
But the Blue Devils were not backing down. With 53 seconds remaining, Moen scored a rushing touchdown from six yards out to make it a one score game.
The Blue Devils still had a chance if they recovered an onside kick. But Platteville fell on the ball and went into victory formation to end the game at 46-38. The win gave the Pioneers the WIAC Championship and received an automatic qualifier for the DIII NCAA Football Playoffs.

Adam Moen finished the game with 302 yards throwing including one touchdown. Moen also added 34 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.
Pioneer's Michael Priami threw for 336 yards, including five touchdowns in the air. Priami also ran for a touchdown to give him six total touchdowns on the day. Platteville's Garrett Stare finished with 11 receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Brandt Stare had seven receptions for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Brandt Stare also added a rushing touchdown.
Stout's
Tucker Haakonson led the team in receptions and yards with nine receptions and 94 yards.
Patrick Corcoran finished the game with seven receptions for 88 yards.
The Blue Devils finished the 2024 regular season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 WIAC record.
