EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Stout baseball team swept a doubleheader against UW-Eau Claire Wednesday afternoon at Carson Park. Winning 11-2 and 14-12.
GAME 1
Late runs lifted Stout to a big 11-2 win in game one. Stout was held scoreless through five innings and trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth. Collin Hageman hit a two-out single to drive in
Justin Sedin for Stouts first run,
Parker Hagebock scored on the play courtesy of an error by the left fielder.
Justin Schnell followed with a single to right field to drive in Hageman to give the Blue Devils the lead. The first seven Blue Devils to bat in the seventh reached base safely to lead 7-2. Stout added four more runs in the eighth thanks to three two- out hits.
Quintin Gonzalez pitched four innings in relief, only allowing one base runner and striking out five to pick up the win. Hagebock went 3-5 with two runs scored. Jack Schrirpke was 3-5 with four RBI Hageman and Sedin each had two hits.
GAME 2
Colin Hageman hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to lift the Blue Devils to a 14-12 win. Stout held leads on 9-3 and 12-5, before a seven-run sixth by the Blugolds tied the game at 12. . Stout batted around in the top of the first, scoring four runs. Hagebock, Bowers, Hageman and Schnell each had RBI hits. After UWEC got a run back in teh bottom of the first Stout regained the four-run advantage with a Schirpke two-out RBI double. Boushack hit a home run the fourth and Schirpke and Bowers had hits to right field to take a 8-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth. The Blue Devils extended their lead to the top of the sixth. Bowers scored on a balk, Harke hit a RBI double to right and
Levi Wilson followed with an RBI triple to right, narrowly missing a home run. UWEC got a two-run home run, a two run double and a three run home run in the seventh that saw 12 Blugolds come to the plate. Hageman's home run to left gave Stout the 13-12 lead and three-straight wild pitches allowed
Justin Schnell to score an give the Blue Devils the two-run lead. Nate Weckop pitched three and third to pick up the win. Schirpke, Bowers and Schnell each went 3-5. Harke, Boushack and Hagebock each had multi hit games.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will host a four-game series with UW-Whitewater this Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30. First pitch from Wakanda Park in Menomonie is set for 12 p.m. both days.
