MENOMONIE (August 25, 2022) - The UW-Stout soccer team posted their best overall record (11-8-1) in several season last year, and will return to action in one week when they travel to Hamline University, Thursday, Sept. 1 to open the season with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
The Blue Devils are posting a large and deep roster, boasting 35 players on the roster, and returning 11 of 13 of their leading scorers from 2021. Leading scorers
Marissa Steele (Sr, Farmington, Minn), a first team all-conference and all-region midfielder, and
Liv Winkler (So, Duluth, Minn) return. Steele scored five goals and dished off eight assists for 18 total points. Winkler, a sophomore forward, was the team's leader in goals with six and passed off three assists for 15 points.
The Blue Devils host 10 home games this season, six in September. Stout opens the home season when they host Augsburg University, Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils host St. Norbert College, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., Viterbo University, Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., St. Benedict, Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., Macalester College, Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. and Luther College, Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
Also in September, Stout will be at UW-Superior, Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Concordia-Moorhead, Saturday, Sept. 10, and at Bethel University, Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Stout opens the WIAC season, where they were picked sixth in the 2022 preseason poll conducted by coaches and sports information directors, Saturday, Oct. 1 at UW-Platteville. Stout host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. during annual homecoming festivities.
MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has been selected to win the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's soccer championship, according to a preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Eagles, who enter the 2022 season ranked No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, have collected four conference regular-season titles - with the most recent in 2018 – and own three tournament crowns. UW-La Crosse is coming off a 2021 campaign that featured an appearance in the sectional semifinal of the NCAA Division III Championship.
UW-Oshkosh, the defending conference regular-season and tournament champion, is slotted for second in the WIAC standings. The Titans also won the conference tournament title a season ago and received a bid into the NCAA Division III Championship for the fifth time in program history. UW-Oshkosh's 16 wins last season were the most in program archives.
The remaining order in the conference predictions features: UW-Whitewater; UW-Eau Claire; UW-Stevens Point; UW-Stout; UW-Platteville; and UW-River Falls.
WIAC teams will begin their non-conference schedules on Sept. 1, while the conference slate will commence on Oct. 1. The top-six teams in the league standings will qualify for the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's). The event will be held Nov. 1, 3, and 5, with all matches hosted by the higher-seeded team. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic NCAA bid.
