Decathlon Results
LA CROSSE (May 7, 2022) - UW-Stout's
Kevin Ruechel was a double winner at the 2022 WIAC Track and Field Championships, presented by Culvers, Saturday at UW-La Crosse.
Ruechel broke his own school record in defending his 2021 shot put title, taking a mark of 60-feet, 0.25-inches, the first Stout thrower to exceed 60 feet at an outdoor meet. Ruechel's throw won the event by nearly nine feet. Ruechel, who won the indoor conference crown in the shot put, holds the school indoor record at 61-9.50. Ruechel won the discus throw with a throw of 164-7. Ruechel placed eighth in the hammer throw to finish the meet with 21 team points.
Freshman
Kaden Martin won the 110-hurdles in a school record time of 14.29 seconds, blowing past his previous bests 14.95 and a wind-aided 14.55. Martin was third in the preliminaries. Martin beat the mark of 14.50 seconds, set by Zak Adams in 1989.
The Blue Devils got second place finishes from:
Mason Barth, decathlon, 6587 points;
Hayden Wagner, 400-hurdles, 54.46;
Jacob Bugella, hammer, 190-10;
Mitch Koeckeritz, javelin, 175-8;
Jacob Backes tied for third in the pole vault (14-11). The 4x400-relay team of
Owen Jelinek,
Caleb Green,
Keegan Pulchinski,
Grant Magnuson finished third (3:19.67).
Spencer Schultz was fourth in the 5000-meter (14:46.44 and
Matthew Ryan was sixth (14:51.88.
Freshman
Lance Pfrimmer was sixth in the 1500 (3:52.25) and
Max Fore was sixth in the 10,000-meter (31:21.62).
Logan Garski was seventh in the shot put (49-7.75).
Hayden Wagner was eighth in the 110-hurdles (15.04).
Grant Magnuson placed eighth in the 800 (1:54.75).
Barth led the Stout decathlon charge, using the second day to power his way from ninth at the beginning of the day to finish second.
Brandon Dick finished fifth (6177) and
Hayden Zachgo was seventh (6132).
Mackenson Steinberg was selected to the All-Sportsmanship team.
As a team, the Blue Devils finished fourth tallying 109 points.
