First Day Decathlon Results
LA CROSSE (May 6, 2022) -
Mitch Koeckeritz and
Jacob Bugella turned in second place finishes and
Jacob Backes had a third place finish as UW-Stout competed in the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Track and Field Championship at UW-La Crosse's Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
Koeckeritz was one of four Blue Devils that scored in the javelin when he placed second in the event with a throw of 175-feet, 8-inches, the fourth best throw in school history. Coming into the conference meet, Koeckeritz's best toss was 167-11 in the first outdoor meet of the season. This season was Koeckeritz's first year competing in the javelin.
Michael Volz was fifth in the event (164-2),
Nate Karau was sixth (161-9) and
Mason Barth was seventh (161-1).
Alex Suelflow placed 10th (145-4) and
Kevin Ruechel was 24th (123-4).
Bugella finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 190-10. Ruechel finished eighth (170-2).
Logan Garski was 10th (155-2), Karau was 13th (150-4),
Connor Walechka was 20th (138-5),
Tony Kuehl 23rd (125-7) and
John Nicpon 24th (112-1).
Backes finished third in the pole vault with a leap of 14-11. Voltz just missed climbing onto podium with a ninth place finish (14-4.25).
Max Fore placed sixth in the 10,000-meter in a time of 31:21.62.
Matt Thomas placed 17th (32:35.47) and
Christian Manthey 19th (32:39.73).
In the preliminaries of the 800-meter,
Grant Magnuson finished second (1:54.16).
Kory Wiegert was 15th (1:58.27),
Casey Deboth 19th (1:59.62) and
Josh Wehrman 23rd (2:05.34).
Hayden Wagner finished first in the preliminaries of the 400-hurdles in a time of 54.03.
Owen Jelinek was 11th (57.59), and
Noah Beck 17th (1:01.38).
Kaden Martin was fourth in the 110-hurdles (14.96). Wagner was eighth to qualify for the finals (15:40).
Carter Wente was ninth (15.52) and Beck 14th (15.87).
Caleb Green was 21st in the 400-meter (50.84). Suelflow was 16th in the 3000-steeplechase and
Cade Hanson was 27th (10:21.48).
Jack Roeber was 18th in the long jump (21-7.50) and
Jakes Asembo 21st (21-4.25).
After the first day of the decathlon,
Brandon Dick was sixth,
Hayden Zachgo eighth and
Mason Barth ninth.
After the first day, the Blue Devils were in third of eight teams. The meet will conclude Saturday, May 7.
