2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Softball Team
MENOMONIE (May 12, 2022) - UW-Stout senior shortstop
Shannon Jones was selected to the 2022 Academic All-District® Softball Team as a member of the NCAA Division III District 6 team.
Jones (Watertown/Lake Mills Lakeside Lutheran) maintains a 3.74 grade point average and is majoring in applied science with minors in human physiology and health & wellness. She earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete Award during 2018-19 and 2020-21 academic years. Jones is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and is a four-time recipient of UW-Stout's Scholar-Athlete Award. She was named a UW-Stout Senior Scholar-Athlete this year and has been recognized on the Dean's List numerous semesters. Jones was awarded a UW-Stout academic excellence scholarship and assisted in biological research of proteins found in zebra mussel shells.
Jones was an All-WIAC first team selection in 2021, when she led the team with home runs and finished second in RBI. This season, she led the Blue Devils with 93 at-bats, 28 hits, eight doubles and three triples. Jones was recently named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete for softball.
Jones is a member of UW-Stout's Pre-Health Society and the women's ice hockey club team. She works as an EMT in Western Lakes Fire District and has job shadowed in emergency rooms and operating rooms. In the fall of 2020, Jones administered COVID-19 antigen tests for UW-Stout students and faculty, and assessed patients for COVID-19 symptoms, ran COVID-19 tests, and provided patients with test results. She has volunteered at Aurora Hospital, River Food Pantry and Stepping Stones, as well as an assistant softball coach for a 16U team.
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
UW-Whitewater's Kate Cleveland, UW-River Falls' Grace Peterson, UW-Platteville's Rachel Plautz and UW-Oshkosh's Grace Stevens were also selected the District 6 team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
