MADISON (February 7, 2022) - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced changes to its Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments (presented by Culver's) for the 2022 season. The changes are in response to a significant imbalance in the number of games played by teams throughout the conference due to the COVID-19 protocols.
Both tournaments were originally scheduled to feature the top-six teams, but will now include all eight conference teams. First round contests for both genders will be held Feb. 18. The women's tournament will continue as previously scheduled with the second round on Feb. 21, semifinals on Feb. 23 and championship on Feb. 25.
The men's tournament will also remain as previously scheduled with the second round on Feb. 22, semifinals on Feb. 24 and championship on Feb. 26.
Both tournaments will be "re-seeded" after the first and second rounds.
A regular-season champion (or champions) will be crowned after the regular-season schedule only if it can be mathematically determined. If it is unable to be mathematically determined, the winner of the conference tournament will also receive the regular-season title.
