MANKATO, Minn. (February 19, 2022) - The UW-Stout softball team bounced back from a season-opening loss to earn a split at the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational at the Mankato Dome. The Blue Devils lost to Nebraska Wesleyan University, 8-2, in the opener, but came from behind to down Buena Vista University, 5-4, Saturday.
The Blue Devils (1-1) pounded out five extra base hits in the win over Buena Vista (1-1). The Blue Devils wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in this game.
Shannon Jones hit a two-out triple in the top of the first inning and came home on
Kate Funk's home run.
The Beavers tied the score in the third with a pair of runs. Stout took the lead back in the fifth. Jones hit a two-out double and came home on Funk's single. Once again the Beavers took the lead back, this time on two runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman
Emma Muehlenbeck led off the seventh with a single and moved to second on
Taylor Mancl's hit. Following an out, Funk drew a walk. Jacobson's second triple of the day happened in the seventh inning for two runs.
The Beavers' Carley Guyett reached base, then moved to second on a stolen base.
Mackensie Wolterstorff earned the win by forcing a flyout and whiffed the final batter of the game.
Jacobson finished with two triples and racked up two RBI. Funk was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Jones was 2 for 4, with a triple and a double.
