Ruechel dominates shot put, Magnuson snares top spot in 800-meter

UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge

OSHKOSH (February 19, 2022) - Kevin Ruechel won the shot put by a margin of more than four feet and Grant Magnuson won the 800-meter run at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge Saturday.

Ruechel threw the shot put 59-feet, 9.50-inches. The second place competitor came in at 55-1.50.

Magunson won the 800-meter run in a time of 1-minute, 55.53-seconds, a time that moves him into the top five of the UW-Stout record book. All-American Jeff Wachter holds the top time in the 800 of 1:53.90 set in 1982. Magnuson's previous best time was 1:57.37. 

Freshman Kaden Martin finished second in the preliminary round of the 60-hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds and improved on his time in the finals and finished second overall in a personal-best time of 8.38. Mason Barth was fourth (8.66), Noah Beck sixth (8.71) and Hayden Wagner eighth (8.87).

Jacob Bugella was third in the weight throw in a distance of 59-8.50. Connor Walechka was sixth (55-6.50). 

Stout had five competitors finish in the top 10 out of 52 runners in the 3000-meter. Cale Bishop was third (8:50.29), Trevor Locke fourth (8:53.52), Ian Williams fifth (8:55.98), Matthew Thomas eighth (8:58.41) and Ethan Hinderman 10th (9:59.57). 

The 4x400-relay team of Casey Deboth, Jaad Stout, Jacob Oyen, and Joshua Wehrman finished fifth in a time of 3:38.12. 

Jake Backes placed third in the pole vault with a career-best vault of 15-10. 

Jack Roeber was fifth in the triple jump (43-2.25) and ninth in the long jump (20-5.25). 

As a team, Stout finished third of 15 teams with 76 points. 

Ruechel and Bugella also competed at the University of Minnesota Snowshoe Open, Friday, Feb. 18. Ruechel was second in the shot put (58-5.25) and Bugella was fourth in the weight throw (58-8.50).
