Blue Devils' Marissa Steele earns all-region honors

United Soccer Coaches 2021 Division III Women's All-Region Teams

MENOMONIE (November 30, 2021) - UW-Stout's Marissa Steele was named to the United Soccer Coaches 2021 Division III All-Region IX Team as a third team selection.

Steele, a senior midfielder from Farmington, Minn., who will play one more season, led the Blue Devils in total points, scoring five goals and a team-best eight assists. Steele's eight assists led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in both number of assists and assists per game (.40 a/g). The Blue Devil tri-captain twice dished off two assists in a single game, against UW-Superior, a team that advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament, and Minnesota-Morris. Steele was also among conference leaders in game-winning-goals, recording three, including the game-winner against conference foe, UW-Platteville in a 2-1 decision. Steele led Stout in shots taken with 43, with 24 shots on net.

"Marissa had a fantastic season and she is deserving of being recognized as one of the best players in the region," said Blue Devil head coach Ryan Raufus. "She was instrumental in our success this season in both defending and being a consistent play-making threat with the ball at her feet."

Steele's five goals in 2021 doubled her career total when she tallied three goals in 2018 and two goals in 2019. Steele did the same with her assists after marking three assists her first season and one during her second year. Steele's eight assists ranked within the top 100 in the NCAA Division III and ties her for 10th on the UW-Stout single season assists list.

For her career, Steele, a 2021 first team all-WIAC selection, has 10 goals and 12 assists, as well as five game-winning-goals. Steele's 10 career goals is currently tied for 22nd on the UW-Stout all-time goals list and her 12 career assists is currently 13th on the all-time assist list. Steele is Stout's 10th all-region soccer selection and the first since Sydney Kasper in 2017.

Steele, a health, wellness and fitness major, is also a member of the Blue Devils' women's track and field team as a sprinter.
