After winning their first three games to open the season, UW-Stout (3-0, 0-0 WIAC) is off to their best start since the since the 2012-13 team started off with six wins to open the season. Stout will now open their home schedule Friday, Nov. 19 against

A LOOK AT THE 2021-22 BLUE DEVILS
- The Blue Devils are off to a 3-0 start, the program's best start since the 2012-13 team started off with six wins to open the season.
- Armani Tinsley, last season's leading scorer, is leading the Blue Devils with 18.0 points per contest. The senior from Detroit, Mich., is currently second in the WIAC in scoring. Tinsley scored a career-best 30 points against Albion College, Nov. 13. Lovell Williams is averaging 15.0 points and also scored a collegiate-best against Albion when he scored 25 points. Jon Ciriacks is averaging in double figures, at 10.0 points over three games.Â
- As a team, Stout is shooting 50.3 percent (99-197)Â from the floor, 38.7 percent (29-75) from 3-point range and 65.6 percent (40-61) from the line. As a team, Stout is averaging 89.0 points, at the moment tops in the WIAC. Stout is allowing 70.7 points.Â
- When Stout scored 107 points against Northland College, Nov. 10, it was the first time the Blue Devils cracked 100 points since Nov. 24, 2019, when they downed Finlandia University, 111-73. Stout shot at a 57.7 percent clip against Northland, hitting 41 of 71 shots, their best shooting percentage since hitting 58.7 percent (37-63) Dec. 7, 2017 at Silver Lake College.Â
- Stout is outrebounding their opponents, 39.3-32. Jon Ciriacks is pulling down a team-best 5.7 boards, while Luke Geiger is averaging 5.0 rebounds and TYreese Alexander 4.3.Â
- Lovell Williams is second among conference teams in assists, averaging 5.0. Williams had a career-high seven assists against Albion, Nov. 13.Â
THE 2021-22 BLUE DEVIL PREVIEW
- The Blue Devils return starters guard Armani Tinsley, last year's leading scorer, forward TYreese Alexander, guard Luke Geiger and post Drew Scott. Â
- In addition, the Blue Devils return forward Jon Ciriacks, who missed five of the nine games last season due to injury and had been a starter the previous two years Â
- Tinsley and Alexander were WIAC honorable mention picks last season and Ciriacks is a two-time WIAC honorable mention choice. Â
- Tinsley scored in double-digits in all nine games and was the team's leading 3-point shooter, draining 24 shots from downtown. Alexander finished his second season with the Blue Devils by averaging 8.8 points and matched Geiger with a team-best 4.9 rebounds. Â
- Ciriacks, Geiger, Alexander and Tinsley have been with the program the longest and they will provide the foundation for the team this season. Ciriacks and Geiger are in their fifth year with the program and Alexander and Tinsley begin their third seasons in Menomonie.
- In limited action last season, Ciriacks, who was injured in the second game and only played in four games, averaged 13.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and continued to step outside to drain 8 of 16 3-pointers. Geiger averaged 10.9 points and hit 14 3-pointers. Scott averaged 16 minutes on the court and pulled down 3.6 rebounds per contest in his first year as a Blue Devil.Â
- Point guard Lovell Williams, the WIAC newcomer of the year last season, will be a key cog to the Blue Devils' season.  Williams averaged 12.0 points per contest, shooting 39 of 76 field goals, shooting 51.3 percent, and 18 of 33 3-point shots for a 54.5 percent success range from beyond the arc. Â
-  Forward Brody Fox returns after seeing action in all nine games and point guard Kyle Williams returned last season after a year off, beginning his third season with the Blue Devils.Â
-  Carson Moe, Preston Briggs, Nick Jungel, Jackson Noll and Cory Hoglund saw limited action last season and Lake expects each to make contributions to the team this year. Â
-  Newcomers to the program include senior transfer Jarnard Smith, Jr., who transferred from Kalamazoo College, Cody Miller, a transfer from NAIA Valley City State, and true freshmen Jacob Walczak, Brenden Weis and Peter Howard. Â

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- Â Stout went to 3-0 by downing Northland College, 107-64, Nov. 10, and Albion College, 86-75, Nov. 13.Â
-  Jon Ciriacks scored 20 points and UW-Stout hit the century mark in a 107-64 non-conference win at Northland College Nov. 10. Ciriacks scored 11 points in the first 12 minutes of the game and added nine second half points before sitting down for the rest of the night, playing 18 minutes. Ciriacks was perfect from two-point range, hitting all eight of his shots inside. Ciriacks connected on 2 of 5 3-pointers and made both free throw attempts. Drew Scott and Jackson Noll both scored collegiate bests, racking up 11 points each. Scott was 5 of 6 from the floor with a free throw and Noll was 4 for 5, making 3 of 4 3-pointers. Freshmen Jacob Walczak and Brenden Weis scored 10 and nine points, respectively, doing their damage in eight minutes of playing time. - Armani Tinsley and Lovell Williams combined for 55 points as UW-Stout downed Albion, Mich, College, 86-75, Saturday. Both Tinsley and Williams scored collegiate-bests, as Tinsley led all scorers with 30 points and Williams tickled the twine for 25 points. Both shot 9 of 20 from the floor. Tinsley hit 5 of 14 3-pointers, Williams 2 of 5. Tinsley was 7 of 9 from the line, while Williams was 5 of 6. The Blue Devils, who ran their record to 3-0, led 43-32 at halftime, and carried as much as a 14-point lead late in the first half. As a team, Stout shot 47.0 percent from the floor (31-66), 32.0 percent from 3-point range (8-25) and 76.2 percent from the line (16-21). Albion shot 45.3 percent (24-53) from the floor, 33.3 percent (6-18) from beyond the arc and 67.7 percent (21-31) from the line. SCOUTING LAKELAND UNIVERSITY (game has been postponed)
- The Muskies have twice surpassed the 100-point mark as a team, and have done it in their last two outings. Lakeland downed Finlandia University, 119-71, Nov. 10, then defeated North Central University, 104-94. The Muskies opened the season with an 85-81 loss at Crown College. Lakeland has four starters and five players averaging in double digits in points. Cam Jaeger leads the way with 22.0 points per contest and has scored more than 20 points in every game, starting the season with 24 points against Crown. Earl Lewis is averaging 12.8 points, Aiden Polzin 11.8, Travis Kohlmann 11.0 and Tylan Huff 10.3. Lakeland is outscoring their opponents, 95.8-80.8, and outrebounding their opponents, 45.0-40.5. THE MUSKIES LAST TIME OUT
- Lakeland improved to 3-1 on the season with a 104-94 win over North Central (Minn.) University Nov. 12. The Muskies won their third straight game and won for the second time in three games played in the state of Minnesota this season. Cam Jaeger and Travis Kohlmann both scored 21 points each to lead Lakeland. Jaeger made 6 of 13 from the field and 7 of 8 from the foul line, while Kohlmann came off the bench to hit five three-pointers and add five rebounds and four assists. Aiden Polzin added 14 points, Earl Lewis contributed 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Barber made it five Muskies in double figures with 10 points plus a game highs of 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. | Game Story and Statistics
WHEN LAKELAND AND STOUT LAST MET
- With the exception of the opening basket, UW-Stout did not lead until almost a minute in the overtime, but the Blue Devils led when they needed to and came up with their first win of the season, a 97-94 overtime win at Lakeland University Nov. 16, 2019. Trailing by 15 points early in the second half and 12 points with 2:35 remaining, the Blue Devils would come back to force overtime.  Behind the eight ball 79-67 with 2:35 left, Stout outscored the Muskies 16-4 to tie the game. Luke Geiger scored 10 points down that final stretch and Jon Ciriacks scored four of his game-high 29 points. THE LAKELAND AND STOUT HISTORY
- The two programs have played only twice in the last 10 years, but the teams met quite a few times the NAIA District 14 tournament back in the day. Between 1966 and 1985, the teams played four times in the tournament. Stout's only loss to Lakeland came during the 1965-66 season when the 20-2 Blue Devils lost only their third game of the season, a 76-69 decision, March 1, 1966. The Blue Devils exacted revenge in 1969 when they defeated the Muskies 100-91 in the District 14 finals and advanced to the NAIA Championship in Kansas City. The 1975 team won 101-82 and the 1985 team won 80-61. In non-NAIA play, Stout downed Lakeland, 104-65 in the second game of the season and the 2011 Blue Devils won 89-74. Stout holds a 7-1 lead in the series.Â
SCOUTING BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY
- Buena Vista received votes in the preseason poll by D3hoops.com. Buena Vista is coming off a 9-3 campaign during the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season and returns all five of its starters after advancing into the American Rivers Conference Tournament championship game where it fell to the the University of Dubuque, 78-64. Buena Vista opened the season with a 70-67 loss to Westminster, Mo, College, Nov. 12 and bounced back the next night for an 84-72 win over Fontbonne University. Michael Demers is averaging 18.5 points per contest, Garrett Sittner 15.5 and Jake Thompson 14.0. THE BEAVERS LAST TIME OUT
- Senior Michael Demers scored 24 points and Garrett Sittner added 19 to help lead the Buena Vista men's basketball team to an 84-72 road win at Fontbonne University on Saturday to close out the SLIAC/A-R-C Challenge. Demers and Sittner each drained three long range buckets to aid their scorig efforts while Demers also went 5-of-6 at the free-throw line and added five rebounds, three assists and five steals.  He moves within 50 points of 1,000 in his career and is now 10th all-time in career three-point makes with 150.  Sittner chimed in with four assists while fellow senior Jake Thompson scored 10 points and dished out a career-high eight assists. | Game Story and Statistics
WHEN BUENA VISTA AND STOUT LAST MET
- The Beavers and the Blue Devils have met four times in the last 15 years and five times overall. The Beavers hold a 3-2 advantage in the series. BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played what is believed to be their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH JIM LAKE
- Jim Lake (18-44) is in his fourth season in 2021-22 as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Lake came to Stout after 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Ferris State. The Bulldogs won the 2017-18 NCAA Division II national title.Â
- Lake served at Ferris State University for a total of 10 years, the last five years beginning with the 2013-14 season as the program's top assistant men's basketball coach. Lake had served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldogs in two different stints over the previous decade, working as a part-time assistant coach from 2011-13 before moving up to the full-time lead position, and as a volunteer assistant coach from 2003-06.
- During five seasons as the Bulldogs' top assistant coach, Lake helped Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, culminating in a 38-1 overall record and the 2018 NCAA Division II national title with a 71-69 win over Northern State University in March.
LAKELAND UNIVERSITY COACH SAM SCHROEDER
- Sam Schroeder is in his fourth year as head coach of the Lakeland men's basketball team. Schroeder took over as coach in 2017 after six years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the program. He has 41 wins in his first two years as head coach while leading Lakeland teams that have ranked among the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and NCAA leaders in a number of statistical categories. The Muskies are coming off a 13-13 record in 2019-20 that also netted a fourth-place finish in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and a home game in the first round of the NACC Tournament. Lakeland won seven of its final 10 games to close the regular season and led the conference in three-pointers made for the second time in three years.
BUENA VISTA COACH TREVOR JOHNSON
- Trevor Johnson, who was listed among the Top 30-Under-30 coaches by the National Association of Basketball Coaches in 2020, will begin his third season as Buena Vista head men's basketball coach in 2021-22. Along with his head coaching duties, he also begins as an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance in the fall of 2021. In his first season patrolling the program in 2019-20, Johnson posted the highest win total in program history by any coach in his first season (18-8) and his team was among the top shooting and scoring teams in Division III, ending the year ranked 22nd in scoring (86.6ppg) and 35th in 3-point makes per game (10.2). He coached a trio of all-conference performers, including one First Team selection.
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls.Â
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
