MENOMONIE (January 25, 2020) - UW-Stout hosted their annual UW-Stout Saturday at the Sports and Fitness Center. No team scores were kept and it was Stout's first meet of the season.
Stout's
Noah Zastrow won the pole vault by almost 18 inches, finishing with a first place leap of 16-feet, 6.75-inches, then when out when he flirted with the school record of 17-2.75, held by Dan Drewek from 2010. Zastrow beat his own indoor career best of 16-5.50.
Junior
Kevin Ruechel handily won the shot put with a throw of 54-10.75, taking first by more than two feet. Stout's Alec Benziner was third (51-00.75) and
Max Johnson set a personal best with a distance of 49-9.25.
Parker Rongstad was second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.51 seconds. The Blue Devils had four runners place in the top sixth of the hurdles, led by Rongstad.
Noah Beck was fourth (8.69),
Hayden Wagner was fifth (8.83) and
Mason Barth was sixth (8.86). Rongstad also ran the first leg of the 4x400-meter relay that took first in a time of 3-minutes, 35.01-seconds. Rongstad ran the relay with freshman
Owen Jelinek, fellow senior
Sam Wouters and freshman
Josh Wehrman.
Michael Fifield was edged down the straightaway to finish second in the one-mile run in a time of 4:21.82, getting nipped by UW-La Crosse's Michael Madoch (4:21.48).
Henry Hughes finished third in the event (4:23.89) and
Trevin Nelson was ninth (4:35.35).
Brent Heilman was third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.68.
Cody Lohrenz was sixth in the event (23.38).
Barth finished third in the high jump (5-5.25).
Jack Kolar was fifth in the pole vault (14-7.25) and
Jacob Backes was eighth (13-7.25).
Bobby Vang placed sixth in the long jump (20-7) and
Daniel Nesja was eighth (19-0.75). Vang was also sixth in the triple jump (39-4.50).
Alex Grulkowski finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a run of 7.21-seconds.
Owen Jelinek was eighth in the 800-meter (2:02.36).
The Blue Devils return to action when they host the Warren Bowlus Open, Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
