THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (17-8, 7-7 WIAC) will host
UW-Platteville (11-14, 5-9 WIAC) in the first round of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's, Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Stout is the fourth seed in the tournament; Platteville is the fifth seed. This will be the Blue Devils' first appearance in the WIAC Championship since the 2015-16 season and their first home playoff game since the 2013-14 season. Stout and Platteville have met twice in the WIAC tournament, both first round games and both at Menomonie, with the Blue Devils winning in back-to-back years. Stout took the Feb. 24, 2003 game, 77-65, and the Feb. 23, 2004 game, 80-64.
Will the third meeting of the season with Platteville be the charm for the Blue Devils? The Pioneers swept the Blue Devils both this season and last season. The winner of the Stout/Platteville game will play at either top-seeded UW-Oshkosh or second-seeded UW-Whitewater, depending on the winner of the UW-La Crosse/UW-Stevens Point. The highest-seeded team will host the lowest seeded remaining team.
TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets will be available at the door and the first 200 college students from UW-Stout or UW-Platteville will receive a free ticket. Each student must have a valid student ID, and there will only be one ticket issued per ID. Cost for the game will be $7 for adults, $4 for senior citizens 62-and-older and $3 for students kindergarten through college. Only WIAC passes will be honored. There will be no advanced sale of tickets. The doors will open at 6 p.m.
STOUT IN THE WIAC TOURNAMENT: Overall, UW-Stout is 19-10 in the WIAC Championship tournament. Stout is 11-3 in the first round, 4-7 in the semi-finals and 4-0 in the finals. Stout is tied with UW-Oshkosh with the second-most WIAC tournament titles (4). Stout has not participated in the WIAC post-season tournament since the 2015-16 season when they traveled to UW-Stevens Point and lost 55-44 in a first round game.

Bailey Diersen played in that Stevens Point game, with Watkins and Diersen starting the game. Watkins scored a team-high 12 points. Diersen scored two points and Diedrich came off the bench to score three points. Stout has not hosted a WIAC playoff games since the 2013-14 season when they hosted UW-Superior in a first round game, falling 86-81 to the Yellowjackets, the Blue Devils' only home WIAC tournament loss. Stout has not won a WIAC post-season game since they defeated UW-River Falls, 86-70, Feb. 23, 2010, in a first round game during the 2009-10 season. A LOOK AT UW-STOUT:
- Bailey Diersen leads the Blue Devils in scoring with a 17.6 per game average and is second in the WIAC. Diersen has scored in double digits in 20 of the 23 games she has played this year and eight times has scored 20 or more points in a game. Diersen had a career-night when she scored 33 points against UW-Stevens Point, Feb. 13. The senior guard leads the team and is first in the WIAC in steals with 85 (3.70/g), swiping 10 against Martin Luther College, one short of the 20-year-old school record of 11, notching her first double-double (19 pts, 10 steals) of the season. Diersen had seven steals against UW-Whitewater and seven against Berea. Diersen is averaging a league-best 3.52 steals per game, 16th in the NCAA Division III. Fifteen times this season, Diersen has had three or more steals in a game. The school record for steals in a single season is 90, set by Amy Jamieson during the 1996-97 season.
- Kyncaide Diedrich is currently averaging 15.5 points per contest, second on the team and third in the WIAC. Diedrich recorded her fifth double-double of the season, Feb. 6 against UW-Eau Claire, recording back-to-back double-doubles.. Previously, Diedrich recorded two double-doubles this season, both with 19 points and 10 rebounds, against St. Olaf College and Berea College. Diedrich has scored in double figures in 23 games and has scored 20 or more points this season five times. Diedrich was named the MVP at the North Park University tournament, tossing in 21 points in a win over Albion College, then 19 points against Berea College. Diedrich was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, as the WIAC Athlete of the Week and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. She is second in the league in assists, averaging 3.52. She leads the team in rebounds with 7.1, sixth in the WIAC.
- Last season, Diedrich finished the season as the conference's leading scorer (15.9) and Diersen was fourth (15.2). Diedrich and the Blue Devils' Jenna Goldsmith tied for fifth in the WIAC in scoring during the 2016-17 season. Diersen ranked 13th that season (10.9). During Diersen and Diedrich's freshman season, Diersen ranked 26th in scoring (7.3). Diedrich averaged 5.3 points as a freshman and was not in the WIAC's top 30.
- Amber Fabeck has not just been delivering points in the paint, but has shown a penchant for the 3-point shot. In a 10-point win over UW-Whitewater in January, Fabeck stepped out from underneath the basket and drained four consecutive 3-point shots and finished the game with a career-high 24 points. Twice this season Fabeck has scored 22 points and for times has scored more than 20 points. Fabeck is fourth on the team in 3-pointers made (21-63) Fabeck collected her first career double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds against Albion College. Fabeck is averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds. Fabeck is fifth in the WIAC in blocked shots with 21.
- Within minutes of each other, both Diedrich and Diersen surpassed 1000 career points in the game at UW-Superior. Diedrich now has 1243 points and is currently fifth on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. Diersen now has 1244 career points and is fourth on the all-time list. Diedrich became the 11th Blue Devil women's basketball player to break 1000 career points and Diersen became the 12th player to reach the milestone. Here are the Top 10 Blue Devil scorers: 1. - Not only are Diersen and Diedrich among the all-time leaders in scoring, they are scaling other lists in the Blue Devil record book. In single season points, Diersen is currently tied for ninth (404) and Diedrich is 11th (387). In rebounds, Diedrich is currently ninth on the all-time list (566). Diedrich has 298 total assists and the school record is 469 by Julie Maki. Diersen has 231 career steals. The school record is 275 by Amy Zelinger, followed by Amy Jamieson with 262. Diersen is approaching the single season record for steals, held by Jamieson with 90. Diersen has 85.
- Shannan Watkins had an impact on the Blue Devils game when she returned to the floor after missing more than a season and a half due to injury. The guard from Hoover, Ala., missed one game this season, but bounced back to score a season-high 12 points against Crown. Watkins is averaging 8.3 points and 2.8 rebounds. She is third on the team in assists (44) and steals (34). Watkins scored 11 points in the season opener and has scored in double digits in 10 games. Watkins has matched her uniform number (11) in points scored six times this season.
- Diersen (28), Diedrich (23), Fabeck (18) and Watkins (11) scored all 80 points in Stout's first loss of the season at UW-Superior, Dec. 30. The 86-80 loss to Superior marked the second-most points the Blue Devils have scored this season (83 vs. Crown) and by far the most points they have given up. The previous number of pints given up was 66 points the previous outing to St.Scholastica (W 78-66).
- Liz Oswald has started all 25 games at point guard and broke out for a career-best 22 points against Crown. Oswald's previous career scoring high was nine points, a mark she hit early this season against Hamline University. This season, she is averaging 6.7 points and a team-high 32.1 minutes played, seventh in the WIAC.
- Senior Carolyn Feddema has started all 24 games this season and is averaging 3.6 rebounds per contest and scored a season-high 10 points against UW-Platteville in early January. Feddema started 19 games during her sophomore season.
- Six players - Diedrich, Fabeck, Oswald, Feddema, Becky Fesenmaier and LIzzy Olsem - have played in all 25 games. Diedrich, Fabeck, Oswald and Feddema have started all 25. With the exception of two games, the Blue Devils have had the same starting line-up and have had only two starting line-up combinations.
- As a team, the Blue Devils are averaging 69.6 points and giving up 63.8. Stout's biggest offensive outburst this year came against Crown in an 83-40 win. Stout lowest output was in a loss to UW-Ls Crosse, 68-51.
- The Blue Devils are outscoring their opponents in every quarter. The final two quarters are the teams' strongest quarters. Stout is outscoring their opponents 409-370 (16.4-14.8) in the opening quarter, 396-377 (15.8-15.1) in the second quarter, 447-414 (17.9-16.6) in the third. and 479-421 (19.2-16.8) in the final quarter . Stout was outscored 14-8 in their only overtime period.
- Bailey Diersen had 10 steals against Martin Luther, one short of Cindy Hovet's 1991 school record of 11 against Marian College, and seven against Berea College and UW-Whitewater. Stout has a decided advantage over their opponents in steals, nabbing 288 to their opponents' 158.
- The Blue Devils have not tallied 17 wins in a single season since the 2007-08 season when the program went 17-10. The 2006-07 team went 23-6 and the 2004-05 team went a school record 24-7. The last time Stout won seven conference games was during the 2013-14 season. During a 16-game conference schedule, Stout went 7-9.
- While the Blue Devils saw their winning streak stop at 10 games in the end of December, they are still off to one of the best starts in school history. The 1995-96 team season opened the year at 9-0. Stout's best record to start the season was 13-0 to open the 1992-93 season. The 10-game winning streak also matched a mid-season 10-game winning streak during the 2005-06 season. With 14 wins, the Blue Devils are assured of at least a .500 season for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

CONFERENCE STANDINGS:
- The Blue Devils were projected to finish seventh in the WIAC according to a WIAC preseason poll by conference coaches and sports information directors and UW-Platteville was projected to finish eighth, but here they are fourth and fifth. UW-Whitewater was picked to finish first, UW-Eau Claire second, UW-Oshkosh third, UW-La Crosse fourth, UW-Stevens Point fifth, UW-River Falls sixth and UW-Platteville eighth. The regular season standings are: 1) UW-Oshkosh; 2) UW-Whitewater; 3) UW-La Crosse; 4) UW-Stout; 5) UW-Platteville; 6) UW-Stevens Point; 7. UW-Eau Claire; 8) UW-River Falls.
STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
- The Blue Devils defeated UW-Stevens Point, 78-68, Feb. 13 on Senior Night and lost in the regular season finale to UW-La Crosse, 68-51, Feb. 16
- UW-Whitewater limited UW-Stout to 33 percent shooting from the field and took a 74-60 win over the Blue Devils Saturday in Whitewater. The Blue Devils led briefly to open the game, but Whitewater led at the quarter, 23-19, and 40-34 at halftime and never trailed after the 6:53 mark of the first period. - UW-Stout outscored UW-Eau Claire 28-11 to in third quarter to throw off a nine-point halftime deficit and went on to a 74-61 win over the Blugolds Wednesday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. After Eau Claire (13-9, 4-7 WIAC) widened the lead to 39-28 to open the third quarter, the Blue Devils went on a 10-0 run to pull to within one point as Carolyn Feddema made a bucket, followed by 3-point shots by Liz Oswald and Amber Fabeck. Bailey Diersen stole the ball and scored the basket to pull Stout to 39-38. Eau Claire toyed with a lead until Stout (16-6, 6-5 WIAC) took the lead for good on a basket by Amber Fabeck to put the Blue Devils up 49-47. Stout closed out the period on a 7-1 run and led 56-48 at the break. The Blue Devils were led by Fabeck's 23 points, one point short of a career-best. SCOUTING UW-PLATTEVILLE
- Morgan Horstman is the team's scoring leader with 14.1 points per contest, and Maiah Damask, who is pulling down a conference-best 9.4 rebounds per game, is second on the team in scoring with 13.3 points. Horstman, who missed a majority of last season, had a season-high 22 points in the Pioneers' win over UW-Stout., but followed that up in the two team's second meeting by scoring 25 points. Horstman tossed in 26 points against UW-Whitewater last week. Horstman and Domask are fifth and sixth, respectively, in scoring within the conference.
- UW-Platteville has three starters back, including senior guard Kassie Buchholz, who contributed 8.3 points per game and made a team-best 32 three-point field goals. Senior guard Morgan Horstman missed a majority of the 2017-18 campaign due to injury, but led the 2016-17 team with 12.9 points per contest. Mariah Domask and Horstmann lead the team in scoring with an identical mark of 12.8 points per game. Domask leads the WIAC in rebounds at 10.7. Rachel Emendorfer is tied with Stout's Kyncaide Diedrich in steals with 2.46, good for third in the WIAC.

THE PIONEERS LAST TIME OUT
- Platteville clinched the #5 seed in the WIAC Women's Basketball Championship after defeating University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 68-54 on Saturday. he Pioneers trailed by as much as 11 points early in the third quarter but finished the game with a 30-8 run over the final 15 minutes of the game. The Pioneers shut out the Pointers in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 19 unanswered points. sophomore Maiah Domask led the team in scoring and rebounds with 17 and 10, respectively. Domask shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field. Senior Kassie Hansen had 16 points on 54.5 percent (6-of-11) shooting from the field. Junior Rachel Enemdorfer had 10 points and six rebounds while junior Morgan Horstman led the team with four assists and four steals. - Platteville fell 63-52 to UW-Whitewater Feb. 13 on Bo Ryan Court.The Warhawks built a 30-23 lead by halftime and extended the lead to 42-31 with 4:24 remaining in the third quarter. The Pioneers would then go on a 14-6 run over the next 5:14 to get the game back within reach at 48-45. Junior Morgan Horstman had 12 of the 14 points during that run. The Pioneers got as close as 52-50 with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter but the Warhawks pulled away to finish the game. Horstman led all scorers with 26 points which was one point shy of her career-high. Horstman shot 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the field including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. WHEN STOUT AND PLATTEVILLE MET THIS SEASON
- The Pioneers have won the last four meetings between the two teams. This season, Platteville took a 68-64 win in Platteville, then came back to down Stout, 78-68 at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Pioneers last season won the first game 83-75 in Platteville and downed the Blue Devils, 88-83 in Menomonie. Last year's sweep was the first time Platteville swept the Blue Devils since the 1989-90 season.
- Platteville shot out to an 11-4 first period lead and it only got worse for UW-Stout as the Pioneers went on to take as much as a 24 point lead in the third quarter before the Blue Devils stormed back to pull to within four points late in the game. The Pioneers pulled away down the stretch making 8 of 10 free throws in the final 1:14 of the game to earn a 78-68 win Jan. 26 at Johnson Fieldhouse. Kyncaide Diedrich led all scorers with 26 points, 13 in the fourth quarter. Amber Fabeck had 15 and Shannon Watkins 11, seven in the fourth quarter. - UW-Platteville outscored UW-Stout, 22-13, in the fourth quarter and went on to a 68-64 win over the Blue Devils in Platteville, Jan. 12. Stout held a 51-46 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Pioneers opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer by Rachel Emendorfer to pull to within two points and Morgan Horstman knotted the score. The Blue Devils' Lizzy Olsem gave Stout the lead by at 53-51 with a bucket, but two free throws Horstman tied the score for the 11th time in the game. Emendorfer hit another 3-pointer for a three point Platteville lead, and the Pioneers never trailed, although Stout twice tied the game, the final time on two free throws by Kyncaide Diedrich with just over two minutes left to play. Six points down the final stretch. Horstman would seal the win. Bailey Diersen led Stout (12-3, 2-2 WIAC) with 21 points. THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:
- Hannah Iverson (17-8) is in her first year as the head coach of the Blue Devils.
- Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
- Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
- A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
UW-PLATTEVILLE COACH MEGAN WILSON
- Megan Wilson (75-152, 9th) a member of two Wisconsin high school championship teams and an NCAA Division III national championship squad, is in her eighth season as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Wilson led the Pioneers to two of their best back-to-back seasons in school history in 2013-14 and 2014-15. In 2014-15, the Pioneers finished 15-11 and finished tied for fourth in the WIAC for the second season in a row, a feat that has been accomplished only one other time in program history. The Pioneers hosted the first home WIAC tournament game in program history. The Pioneers shattered the single-season turnover average, limiting themselves to just 12.9 turnovers-per-game, which was good for eighth best in Division III.
CONFERENCE: UW-Stout is a member of the eight-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater.
