A LOOK AT UW-STOUT:
- The Blue Devils have three players averaging in double figures with Liz Oswald is leading Stout with a 13.2 per game average, Shannan Watkins at 13.0 points and Amber Fabeck at 12.3. Watkins, the senior guard from Hoover, Ala., scored 16 points in the season opener, then went off for a career-best 27 points against Illinois Wesleyan.  Emily Jacques leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.5 boards, with Watkins averaging 5.8 rebounds.. Freshman Haley Yaeger is coming off the bench and is pulling down 4.3 rebounds and Fabeck is averaging 4.0.Â
- Stout is averaging 74.7 points and are giving up 62.8.
- The Blue Devils return two starters from last season's team in Amber Fabeck, who earned all-WIAC honorable mention honors, and Liz Oswald. Fabeck averaged 13.4 points and had 5.0 rebounds. Oswald, along with Shannan Watkins, Becky Fesenmaier, Emily Jacques and Lizzy Olsem have seen considerable throughout their careers. The Blue Devils return nine players from last year and welcome nine newcomers.
- The Blue Devils lost two all-conference players in guards Kyncaide Diedrich and Bailey Diersen and will need to replace the duo's scoring prowess. Also lost to graduation was Carolyn Feddema.
- But Amber Fabeck, who earned All-WIAC honorable mention honors, returns. Fabeck last season averaged 13.4 points and pulled down 5.0 rebounds. Shannan Watkins returned full-time for the Blue Devils last year after missing nearly a season and a half due to injury. The senior guard from Hoover, Ala., saw action in 26 games and averaged 8.2 points. Watkins was among the leaders for the Blue Devils in scoring, assists and steals.
- Senior Becky Fesenmaier and Emily Jacques have been contributors their first three season and Fesenmaier saw action in all 27 games last year and Jacques in 26 games. Throughout her career, Jacques played in 76 of 77 possible games. Throughout her career, Jacques has averaged 3.8 rebounds per contest. Fesenmaier has played in 74 possible games.
- Liz Oswald and Lizzy Olsem played in all 27 games year, with Oswald starting all 27 games where she averaged 6.7 points.
- Also returning this season are senior Kelsey Kainz, junior Keysha Hazelton and sophomore Gina Palasz.
- Newcomers this year include junior transfer guard Molly Wampler, guards Lindsey Johnson, Courtney Crouch, Melanie Carli, Katie Christopherson, Alexa Neilitz, and Paityn Tiefs, freshman forward Haylee Yaeger and freshman center Erin O'Brien

CONFERENCE STANDINGS:
- The Blue Devils are projected to finish fifth in the WIAC according to a WIAC preseason poll by conference coaches and sports information directors. UW-Oshkosh was picked to finish first, UW-La Crosse second, UW-Whitewater third, UW-Eau Claire fourth, UW-Platteville sixth, UW-Stevens Point seventh and UW-River Falls eighth..
STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
- The Blue Devils have been idle since taking a 55-47 win over the University of Northwestern, Nov. 26.
- Shannan Watkins notched UW-Stout's first double-double of the season and the Blue Devils worked their way to a 55-47 home win over Northwestern Tuesday. The Blue Devils overcame a first period where they shot only 19 percent (4-21) from floor and only marginally improved throughout the game, shooting 30 percent in the second period, 33 percent in the third, 23 percent in the fourth to finish at 26.4 percent (19-72) for the game. The game was tied at 11 after the first period and Northwestern held a 25-24 halftime lead. The teams slugged it out in the third period and when Stout's Liz Oswald hit a 3-pointer to put Stout up 38-37 with two minutes remaining in the period, the Blue Devils did not trail the rest of the game. Stout led 42-39 at the end of the third quarter and simply kept the Eagles (2-5) at bay the rest of the way. Watkins finished the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds. SCOUTING WARTBURG COLLEGE
- Wartburg is ranked seventh in the Dec. 9 D3Hoops.com Top 25. and is ranked sixth in the dec. 10 WBCA coaches poll..Emma Gerdes is a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American selection.
- Wartburg's only loss of the season came at the hands of a WIAC squad, a surprising and rejuvenated UW-Platteville squad. The Pioneers defeated the Knights, 75-65, Nov. 19 in Platteville. Wartburg opened the season downing a pair of WIAC schools at the UW-Eau Claire Classic, taking down UW-La Crosse, 72-62, in the opener, then defeated the host Blugolds, 69-54, on the second day. Stout will be the fourth WIAC school the Knights face this season, although they could see UW-La Crosse again in their own holiday tournament after Christmas, which is set up in a championship format.
- The Knights were picked to finish first in the American Rivers Conference, according to a league preseason poll. Wartburg finished with a 27-4 overall record along with a 15-1 conference mark last season, collecting the program's third consecutive regular season and tournament titles. The Orange and Black defeated Loras 73-61 in the A-R-C Championship and advanced to the NCAA Elite 8, falling to No. 2-ranked University of St. Thomas.Â
- Macy Harris is averaging 11.4 points, Emma Gerdes 10.4 and Payton Draper 10.3. Gerdes leads the team in rebounds with 4.4. The Knights average 79.3 points and give up 59.7.Â

KNIGHTS THE LAST TIME OUT
- Wartburg jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead and blossomed that into a 49-18 halftime lead over Buena Vista Saturday, Dec. 7, and were never seriously threatened on their way to an 82-42 win over the Beavers. Junior Kaitlyn Volesky led the Orange and Black contributing 13 points and had three rebounds and two assists. Freshman Macy Harris scored 11 points for the Knights and tallied one rebound and one assist. LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Blue Devils and Knights have met four times, and Wartburg has won all four meetings. The teams first met during the 1979-80 season, with Wartburg taking a 71-37 decision. When the teams met during the 1991-92 season, it was Stout's first trip to the NCAA tournament and Wartburg took a 90-72 win. SCOUTING VITERBO UNIVERSITY
- The V-Hawks have played a lot of basketball and by the time they meet Stout, they will have 10 games under their belt, including two games against Canadian teams in October and two exhibition games. The V-Hawks opened with losses at Western Ontario and the University of Guelph. The took on UW-Milwaukee to close out October and traveled to NCAA Division II Winona State Nov. 16.Â
- Madison Lindauer leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per contest. Alyssa Nillsen leads the team in rebounds with 7.4.

- Natalia Leguizamon came off the bench to score 17 points and the V-Hawks went on to a 54-28 conference win over Waldorf College. Madison Lindaur added 10 points. LAST TIME THEY MET
- The Blue Devils and the V-Hawks have not met on the hardwood since the 1990-91 season and overall have only met three times, with the Blue Devils winning the first two contests during the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. But the V-Hawks took the team's last meeting during the 1990-91 season, a 76-75 win to close out Stout's regular season. Stout went on to win their next three games in the NAIA playoffs before losing to Fort Hayes State.Â

THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:
- Hannah Iverson (23-10) is in her second year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. (started the season at 18-9)
- Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
- Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
- A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
WARTBURG COACH BOB AMSBERRY
- Bob Amsberry enters his 14th year as head women's basketball coach at Wartburg College in 2019-20 and has established one of the strongest programs in the country. The Knights have advanced to the NCAA tournament for four consecutive years, including the only two trips to the NCAA Final 4 in both 2016 and 2018, and followed those up with an Elite 8 appearance in 2019. After replacing all five starters from the 2018 Final Four team, this past season the Knights finished with a 27-4 overall record, sweeping both the conference regular season and conference tournament titles for the third consecutive year. Wartburg made another strong post-season run before falling in the Elite Eight and finished the year with a No. 7 Final National Ranking.
VITERBO COACH LIONEL JONES
- Lionel Jones is entering this second season in 2019-2020 as the head women's basketball Coach at Viterbo University. He won his first game as a collegiate head coach against #22 Cardinal Stritch University on October 26, 2018 by a score of 61-54 at R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium. The V-Hawks won nine games, the most since the 2012-2013 season. Under his coaching, forward Alyssa Nilssen led the conference in scoring, rebounding, and double-doubles. Nilssen was named the Viterbo Female Athlete of the Year in 2018-2019. Before coming to Viterbo, Jones was the head coach at Durand High School since 2012. In six seasons with the Panthers, he led Durand to three conference and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Regional Championships. During the 2016-2017 season, Durand finished as WIAA semifinalists and Jones was named an All-Star Coach by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. Jones led Menomonie High School to a school-record 22 wins and a conference championship in 2010, being named the Big Rivers Conference Coach of the Year.
- Jones was an assistant coach at UW-Stout for the men's basketball team for four seasons from the 2004-05 season to the 2007-08 season.Â
CONFERENCE:Â UW-Stout is a member of the eight-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater.
UP NEXT:Â The Blue Devils will close out the first semester of play when they host the University of Dubuque in a brunch-time contest at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the first half of a doubleheader with the men's programs. The doubleheader will feature free admission and will include games and giveaways. Local elementary and middle school students are expected to be in attendance.Â
