THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (4-1, 0-0 WIAC) will host the
University of Northwestern (2-4, 0-0 UMAC), Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. as the second game of a doubleheader with the men's program.
BLUE DEVILS LIVE: Join the Blue Devils every second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Stout Ale House for Blue Devil Live, a live radio show with host Pete Knutson, the voice of the Blue Devils. Throughout the show, Knutson will talk to Blue Devil coaches and student-athletes about what is coming up and what happened last week. The December show is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12.

A LOOK AT UW-STOUT:
- Liz Oswald is leading Stout with a 14.6 per game average and Shannan Watkins is averaging 13.2 points. Watkins, the senior guard from Hoover, Ala., scored 16 points in the season opener, then went off for a career-best 27 points against Illinois Wesleyan. Amber Fabeck is tossing 12.4 points. Emily Jacques leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.2 boards, with Watkins averaging 5.0 rebounds.. Freshman Haylee Yaeger is coming off the bench and is pulling down 4.8 rebounds.
- Stout is averaging 78.6 points and are giving up 66.0
- The Blue Devils return two starters from last season's team in Amber Fabeck, who earned all-WIAC honorable mention honors, and Liz Oswald. Fabeck averaged 13.4 points and had 5.0 rebounds. Oswald, along with Shannan Watkins, Becky Fesenmaier, Emily Jacques and Lizzy Olsem have seen considerable throughout their careers. The Blue Devils return nine players from last year and welcome nine newcomers.
- The Blue Devils lost two all-conference players in guards Kyncaide Diedrich and Bailey Diersen and will need to replace the duo's scoring prowess. Also lost to graduation was Carolyn Feddema.
- But Amber Fabeck, who earned All-WIAC honorable mention honors, returns. Fabeck last season averaged 13.4 points and pulled down 5.0 rebounds. Shannan Watkins returned full-time for the Blue Devils last year after missing nearly a season and a half due to injury. The senior guard from Hoover, Ala., saw action in 26 games and averaged 8.2 points. Watkins was among the leaders for the Blue Devils in scoring, assists and steals.
- Senior Becky Fesenmaier and Emily Jacques have been contributors their first three season and Fesenmaier saw action in all 27 games last year and Jacques in 26 games. Throughout her career, Jacques played in 76 of 77 possible games. Throughout her career, Jacques has averaged 3.8 rebounds per contest. Fesenmaier has played in 74 possible games.
- Liz Oswald and Lizzy Olsem played in all 27 games year, with Oswald starting all 27 games where she averaged 6.7 points.
- Also returning this season are senior Kelsey Kainz, junior Keysha Hazelton and sophomore Gina Palasz.
- Newcomers this year include junior transfer guard Molly Wampler, guards Lindsey Johnson, Courtney Crouch, Melanie Carli, Katie Christopherson, Alexa Neilitz, and Paityn Tiefs, freshman forward Haylee Yaeger and freshman center Erin O'Brien

CONFERENCE STANDINGS:
- The Blue Devils are projected to finish fifth in the WIAC according to a WIAC preseason poll by conference coaches and sports information directors. UW-Oshkosh was picked to finish first, UW-La Crosse second, UW-Whitewater third, UW-Eau Claire fourth, UW-Platteville sixth, UW-Stevens Point seventh and UW-River Falls eighth..
STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
- The Blue Devils had a pair of double digit wins last week, defeating Luther College, 76-61, Nov. 19, then running past St. Scholastica, 88-67, Nov. 23.
- UW-Stout was able to overcome Luther College's press and the Blue Devils went on to take a 76-61 non-conference win over the Norse Tuesday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Norse (0-4) pressed the Blue Devils (3-1) for much of the game, forcing Stout into a season-high 21 turnovers, which Luther converted into 29 points. But the Blue Devils' are no slouch when it comes to defensive pressure and Stout forced 19 Luther turnovers. | Game Story and Statistics
- Stout outscored St. Scholastica 21-6 in the first quarter and went on to an 88-67 win over the Saints Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse. Emily Jacques scored eight points in the first quarter and Courtney Crouch came off the bench to score all seven of her points before the first break. Stout ran out to as much as a 22 point lead in the second quarter. The Saints got as close as 14 points in third quarter.Junior Liz Oswald and freshman Haylee Yaeger led the Blue Devils with 18 points. Oswald hit all six of her 3-point attempts. Yaeger was 8-for-10 from the floor and added a pair of three throws. SCOUTING THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN
- Kelsea Lund leads the Eagles with 13.7 points, Brooklyn DeKam averages 11.0 and Megan Roberts 10.. Rio Landers is pulling down a team-best 7.5 rebounds. Jordan Sauve yanking down 5.3 rebounds. The Eagles are averaging 59.8 points and giving up 68.0.
- Northwestern is picked to finish fourth in a UMAC preseason poll. The Eagles come off a solid 2018-19 campaign where they tallied a 10-6 UMAC record, but were cut short in the UMAC tournament semifinal round with a loss to UW-Superior.

EAGLES THE LAST TIME OUT
- Northwestern welcomed Midwest Conference's Grinnell College for a Saturday afternoon tilt at the Ericksen Center. Both teams entered the contest with one win on the year, setting up for a well-fought non-conference battle. The Eagles put together dominant second and third quarters to down the Pioneers, 76-66 in final scoring. Megan Roberts (Greeley, Colo./Dayspring Christian Academy) and Brooklyn DeKam (Edgerton, Minn./Southwest MN Christian) each recorded career-highs for the Eagles. LAST MET THEY MET
- Blue Devil assistant coach Kyleigh Hebert was a sophomore on the Blue Devils' team when Stout and Northwestern last met on Nov. 16, 2013, at Northwestern. Stout fell into a big hole early, then scratched and clawed their way up, but could not get out as they lost a 79-60 decision to the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, at the Eagles' Tip -Off Classic. Brea Boomer led Stout with 11 points and Hebert contributed nine.

THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:
- Hannah Iverson (22-10) is in her second year as the head coach of the Blue Devils.
- Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
- Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
- A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
NORTHWESTERN COACH AARON KAHL
- Aaron Kahl is in his 10th year as the head coach for the Eagles. An assistant athletic director, Kahl oversees the athletic department's transportation needs, tickets, and concessions. Coached the women's program to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014-15. Clinched Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) post-season championships in the 2010-11 and 2013-14 seasons. Boasts three National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) appearances (2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17)
CONFERENCE: UW-Stout is a member of the eight-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater.
STOUT IN THE WIAC TOURNAMENT: (updated as of Feb. 23, 2019) Overall, UW-Stout is 20-11` in the WIAC Championship tournament. Stout is 12-3 in the first round, 4-8 in the semi-finals and 4-0 in the finals. Previous to the 2018-19 year, Stout had not participated in the WIAC post-season tournament since the 2015-16 season when they traveled to UW-Stevens Point and lost 55-44 in a first round game.

Kyncaide Diedrich and
Bailey Diersen played in that Stevens Point game, with Watkins and Diersen starting the game. Watkins scored a team-high 12 points. Diersen scored two points and Diedrich came off the bench to score three points. Stout had not hosted a WIAC playoff games since the 2013-14 season when they hosted UW-Superior in a first round game, falling 86-81 to the Sally Linzmaier-led Yellowjackets. Before Wednesday, Stout had not won a WIAC post-season game since they defeated UW-River Falls, 86-70, in a first round game. Stout lost to Stevens Point, 82-74, in the second round game. Stout has not won two or more games in a conference tournament since winning the tournament during the 2006-07 season. Stout is currently tied with UW-Oshkosh for the most tournament titles with four. |
