THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (3-6-0, 0-1-0 WIAC) will travel to River Falls twice in a week. They will be at the Falcons (7-4-1, 0-0-1 WIAC), Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m. then will be at River Falls, Saturday, Oct. 12 to host UW-Oshkosh (3-6-1, 0-1-0 WIAC) at 4:30 pm. Stout will make-up a contest with Hamline University, (4-7-0, 1-5-0 MIAC) Sunday, Oct. 13.   Stout will spend all of the 2019 season on the road,. The soccer field in the Nelson Athletic Complex is under renovation, with an artificial surface field to highlight the renovation. The Blue Devils were originally scheduled to play four conference games in Menomonie, but weather and field conditions have taken that option away.

JUST AN ODD SCHEDULE THIS YEAR: The Blue Devils are road warriors this year. Four conference games that were originally to be played in Menomonie have been moved.  The Blue Devils will play UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at UW-River Falls; UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Oct. 12 has been changed to 4:30 .m. at UW-River Falls.; UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Oct. 26 has been changed to 10 a.m. at UW-Eau Claire's Bollinger Field; and UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. will be at UW-Eau Claire's Bollinger Field. Stout will host Minnesota-Morris, Sunday, Oct. 27 at the UW-River Falls field. All of Stout's non-conference games are on the road. That will turn around next season when the new Stout facility is expected to be ready.

THE BLUE DEVILS THIS YEAR: The Blue Devils have been all over the board this season, posting one goal losses, two goal losses, a one goal win, a two goal win and getting blown out. Claudia Anderson has started seven games and has stopped 79 shots on net, an average of 9.75 saves per game, far and above tops in the WIAC. Erica Seitz made her first start and picked up her first collegiate win, downing Cornell College, 3-2.  Marissa Steele and Ariel Kuchta lead the Blue Devils with two goals and an assist each. Hannah Kirchner has two goals. Rachel Washington has one goal and two assists. Marissa Steele has a goal and an assist. Rachel Younker has a goal and Whitley Carothers and Megan Richardson each have an assist. Anderson has a goals against average of 2.96 with 79 saves and a saves percentage of .799, Rachel Nowak a GAA of 3.23 and Seitz a GAA of 2.52.  | 2019 Statistics 

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout opened the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) by hosting UW-Stevens Point at Ramer Field in River Falls Oct. 5 and the Pointers came away with a 5-0 win. Claudia Anderson and Erica Seitz combined for 13 saves for Stout (3-6-0, 0-1-0 WIAC). Anderson recorded eight saves, but allowed four goals. A QUICK PREVIEW OF THE BLUE DEVILS: The Blue Devils last season had 17 freshmen on the squad and now many of those freshmen return with a year of collegiate experience under their belt. Sophomore Marissa Steele returns as Stout leading scorer from last season after driving in three goals and three assists. Senior tri-captain Bella Pedlar (Rogers, Minn) added three goals. Senior tri-captains Sarah Dickmann (Shawano) and Hannah Kirchner (La Crosse) added to the scoring, Dickmann with a goal and assist and Kirchner matching Steele in assists with three. Junior Lexi Fernandez (St. Charles, Minn) and sophomores Rachel Washington (Milwaukee), Ariel Kuchta Green Bay) and Caylee Boone (Eau Claire) each scored their first collegiate goals last year. Junior Lexie Wescott (Lake Geneva) and sophomore Kali Brahs (Lindstrom, Minn) each notched an assist.  Claudia Anderson (So, North Branch, Minn) returns after playing 14 games in front of the twine, recording 91 saves. Rachel Nowak (Jr, Lomira), all 6-foot-2 of her, returns to the goalie box after a year off. Nowak started two games in 2017, playing in four, earning a goals against average of 0.95. A LOOK AT UW-RIVER FALLS: The Falcons will be looking to break a four game winless streak. Their last win came in 2-0 win over Martin Luther College, Sept. 25. The Falcons lead the WIAC in total goals with 25 (2.08/game) and lead the league in shots at 19.33 per game. Maggie Koehler is among the league leaders in goals with seven, averaging 0.58 per game, and has three assists. Camryn Altnau has scored six goals and Mariah Troje five. Haley Crosby is posting a goals against average of 1.05 and Amanda Ladue has a GAA of 1.72.  The Falcons opened the season at 7-1-0 and posted five shutouts in that streak.  | Season Statistics

THE FALCONS LAST TIME OUT:  The Falcons fell to Cornell College 3-2 Sunday .  The Falcons led through he first half but two goals in the second by the Rams gave Cornell the win. Mariah Troje and Maggie Koehler scored for the Falcons. The Rams got the game winner on a penalty kick in the 80th minute. | Game Story and Stats |  The Falcons tied with UW-Platteville Saturday to open the WIAC schedule. The Pioneers struck first scoring a goal at 37:56. Macie Alexa was assisted on the goal by Emma Willard. Camryn Altnau tied it up 1-1 at 45:24. Four yellow cards and a red card were called in the match. The Falcons outshot the Pioneers 11-8.  Peri Hoff had four total shots and two shots on goal.  Haley Crosby had four total saves in her 110 minutes of play. |  Game Story and Stats

THE LAST TIME RIVER FALLS AND STOUT MET:   The Blue Devils scored three goals in each half to take a 6-0 win over the UW-Superior Yellowjackets Saturday at Nelson Field. Each goal came from a different Blue Devil, along with five assists in the game.. | Game Story and Stats

THE SERIES: The teams are tied 10-10-6 in the overall series. The Falcons won last season, but Stout won in 2017. 


A LOOK AT UW-OSHKOSH: Mallory Knight leads the team in goals with four and has an assist. Addie Schmitz has two goals and two assists. Madelyn Bunyan has made 35 saves and has a GAA of 1.25. Oshkosh is currently riding a three-game losing streak and a four-game winless streak. The Titans' last win came on a 4-3 win at Ripon College Sept. 18. THE TITANS LAST TIME OUT: UW-Oshkosh opened its WIAC women's soccer schedule with a 2-0 loss to two-time defending league champion UW-La Crosse on Oct. 5 in La Crosse. UW-La Crosse recorded both goals in the first half, including Kaitlyn Villars' score that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead during the contest's 34th minute (33:33) of activity. Villars tallied her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Sophie Amundson. the Eagles doubled their advantage over the Titans (3-6-1, 0-1 WIAC) on an own goal in the 39th minute (39:00).. |  Game Story and Stats

THE LAST TIME OSHKOSH AND STOUT MET:  Stout's Sydney Kasper tied the score in the 31st minute, but UW-Oshkosh's Mallory Knight scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 54th minute and the Titans hung on for a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils Oct. 6, 2018. Knight opened the scoring in the 17th minute, but Kasper evened the score for Stout taking a pass in the box from Marissa Steele. The game was scoreless until Knight netted the eventual game winner early in the second half. | Game Story and Stats

THE SERIES: The Titans hold a 20-4-7 lead in the series. The Titans won last season and the teams tied in 2017. Stout's last win over the Titans came Oct. 15, 2016


A LOOK AT HAMLINE UNIVERSITY:  Ashlee Olson has scored five goals and two assists to lead the Pipers. Siri Parker has four goals, Cailey Schmitt three and Jenna Sampson two. Five Pipers have scored a single goal. Lauren Sicora and Melanie Hopkins have been splitting time in the net. Sicora has six starts and a GAA of 1.71, while Hopkins has started five games and has a GAA of 2.10.  | Season Statistics

THE PIPERS LAST TIME OUT:  The Pipers are coming off back-to-back 2-1 conference losses, to Carleton Oct. 2 and to Concordia, Oct. 6. Most of the time, Carin Currier can be found on the back side or in the middle of the field for the Hamline women's soccer team. On Sunday, however, she moved up and scored her first college goal inm the Pipers' 2-1 loss at Concordia. The freshman's goal at 20:19 offset an early CC goal and lifted the Pipers into a 1-1 deadlock that lasted until the 83 minute mark when the Cobbers broke through for the winning tally. THE LAST TIME HAMLINE AND STOUT MET: The Blue Devils opened the 2018 season with a 2-1 win over the Pipers at Nelson Field. Stout's Sydney Kasper took a pass from Blue Devil newcomer Allison Klotz in the 65th minute and buried the ball high in the opposite corner to give Stout a 2-1 win over Hamline University in the season opener for both teams | Game Story and Stats

AWARDS2019Ariel Kuchta was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week Sept. 23 after scoring a goal and an assist in Stout's 3-2 win over Cornell College...2018: playing in her first collegiate weekend, defender Katie Sukanen was named the WIAC defensive player of the week, Sept. 5, after helping hold Hamline University to one goal and eight shots in a 2-1 win, Aug. 31...2017: Midfielder Sydney Kasper earned first team All-WIAC honors as well as all-district honors and Academics All-District honors. Forward Kaitlyn Hess was also a first team all-conference pick...defender Jessica Ingle was the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week after Stout defeated River Falls and tied with Stevens Point, 1-1...Sydney Kasper scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 win over Hamline University, Sept. 26, and was named the WIAC offensive player of the week...Lynn Johnson was selected as the WIAC defensive player of the week after making 16 saves in a 1-1 tie with 12th ranked UW-Whitewater, Sept. 30...Kaitlyn Hess was selected as the WIAC offensive player of the week after scoring two goals - including the game winner against Viterbo in a 1-0 win Sept. 23 - in a week that Stout went 1-1-1...Sydney Kasper was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week after scoring a goal and assist in a 4-0 win over UW-Superior, Sept. 13.


TEAM CAPTAINS: Blue Devil team captains for the 2019 season are Sarah Dickmann, Bella Pedlar and Hannah Kirchner.

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (58-78-19) is in his ninth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School. (Raufus began the 2019 season at 55-72-19)


TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OF BLUE DEVIL SOCCER: After many years as a club sport, UW-Stout became the ninth WIAC team to join the varsity ranks during the 1995 season. The Blue Devils took their lumps to open the season, making their premiere by hosting Augsburg College, Sept. 10, in a 7-0 loss. Stout opened the conference season three days later at Nelson Field, hosting perennial conference powerhouse UW-Stevens Point, dropping a 6-0 decision. The Blue Devils finally broke onto the scoreboard in their third game. While hosting UW-Platteville, Sept. 17, Kari Stapleton scored in the 70th minute on an assist from Jenny Tyson in a 2-1 loss. The Blue Devils would get their first-ever win, a 3-0 decision at Martin Luther College, Sept. 23, collecting goals from Amie Frasier, Tyson and Joann Sognesand. Defender Andrea Schroeder was a second team all-conference selection in 1995, then was selected to the first team in 1996. Members of that first 1995 team include: April Amys, Beeta Bastani, Tammy Beuch, Carrie Blaska, Jen Chapple, Michelle Coon, Amie Frasier, Aimee Grimm, Jamie Jester, Julie Kremer, Dorian Loberg, Amy Lyons, Kristin Manion, Anglea McDowell, Andrea Schroeder, Joann Sognesand, Kari Stapleton, Jenny Tyson, Alisa Zimmerman. DOWN THE ROAD:  The Blue Devils will travel to Duluth, Minn., Tuesday, Oct. 15 to take on St. Scholastica at 3 p.m., then head the other direction, traveling to UW-Platteville, Saturday, Oct. 19 for a 7 p.m. contest.
