THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (4-4, 0-0 WIAC) will go through all three NCAA divisions over the course of this next week, actually over five days. Stout opens the week when they travel to Green Bay, Tuesday, Dec. 11, to take on Division I UW-Green Bay (5-4, 0-0 Horizon) in an exhibition contest. The Blue Devils then travel to the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan to play Finlandia University (0-7), Friday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m., then will play NCAA Division II Michigan Tech University (5-4, 2-2 GLIAC), Saturday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m, to conclude the first semester of play before finals begin.
UW-Stout coach Dewey Mintz played across what would now be all three NCAA Divisions quite often in the 1970s and 1980s, making several trips west and south throughout those two decades. Stout was an NAIA affiliated team at the time, but took on schools such as the University of Montana, Montana State, Eastern Montana, Utah State, the University of Washington, Northern Illinois and Nebraska. In one stretch of games to start the 1981-82 season, Mintz opened the season by playing Northland College, which is now a Division III school; Eastern Montana, which is now Division II Montana State-Billings; the University of Montana, now a Division I school; and the University of Washington, a Division I program.

Stout has been outscored in the first half, 41.9-38.0, but have outscored their opponents in the second half, 45.1-40.8. Stout has split a pair of overtime games. Stout has scored at least 75 points in all eight games, has scored 80 points or more in six games and has scored in the 90s in three games, including the last games.
- After missing all except two minutes of last season due to injury, John Keefe eased into the first games of the season, but has been on a tear since then. Keefe scored 12 and 7 points, respectively in the first two games, but since then has scored at least 19 point in following six and has scored in the 30s in three games. Over the last six games, Keefe has averaged 27.5 points. Keefe hit a career-best 33 points in an overtime loss to McMurry University. Keefe currently has 1057 career points, and is 19th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. Keefe is currently averaging 23.0 points per contest, tops in the WIAC and 21st in the NCAA Division III.
- Zach Dahl has overcome a cold start from the floor. The senior captain did not hit a shot from the floor in the first two games, scoring only two points from the free throw line, which may have been an early season precursor. But Dahl has steadily increased his scoring totals and is now averaging 890 points per game and is among the team leaders in rebounds, averaging 4.0 per game. Back at the free throw line, Dahl has been steady, hitting 17 of 18 attempts (.944), fifth in the WIAC.
- Sophomore captain Jon Ciriacks played the first two games of the season, then missed the next five games before returning against Crown College, Dec. 7. Now after three games, Ciriacks is averaging 14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
- Sophomore Luke Geiger exceeded his entire freshman season scoring totals during the Blue Devils' season-opening overtime win over Lawrence. Geiger last season had 11 points for the entire season, but finished the game with 15 points. Geiger is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points. Geiger four-time this season has scored in double digits, and has 61 total points.
- Sophomore transfer Brandon Gilbertson has earned starts in five games and is averaging 6.3 points. He had a season-best 10 points against McMurry in his first start.
- Junior transfer Kyle Williams has come off the bench to average 6.1 points, but has made his mark early with steals, recording seven against Bethany Lutheran, and now has 16 steals, averaging 2.0 per contest to rank fifth in the WIAC. Williams is also among the national leaders in assist to turnover ratio. Williams, who comes off the bench, currently has a team-best 29 assists to four turnovers for a ratio of 7.25, ranking third nationally.
- The 96 points scored against Silver Lake is the most since scoring scoring 109 against Crown College in February, 2011. Stout scored 94 against Silver Lake College last December.

The Blue Devils' leading scorer from the 2016-17 season made it less than two minutes into last season when he was injured in the season opener and was lost for the entire season. Keefe was injured when he laid in his only basket of the season. During the 2016-17 season, Keefe scored in double figures in 19 of 26 games, and scored a career-high 32 against former WIAC foe UW-Superior in November. Keefe dished off at least two assists in every game and had four or more assists in 16 games. SCOUTING UW-GREEN BAY
- Averaging 84.4 ppg through nine games this season, Green Bay leads all Horizon League teams in scoring average so far. - And in a continuation to that category, UW-Stout women's basketball coach Hannah (Quilling) Iverson played her college ball at UW-Green Bay and was also a member of the UWGB women's basketball staff when she was hired by Stout. The Blue Devils are off to an 8-0 start.
THE PHOENIX THE LAST TIME OUT
- Looking for its fifth win in six tries, Green Bay fell behind early at Bowling Green and could never gain any traction, eventually falling 97-68 on Saturday night at the Stroh Center in nonconference action. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Phoenix (5-4), who entered averaging 86.5 PPG but was held to a season-low 68 points against the Falcons (5-5). Sandy Cohen III (16 points), ShanQuan Hemphill (10 points) and PJ Pipes (13 points) all finished in double-figures, but GB shot only 36.5 percent (23-for-63) from the field and trailed by as many as 35 points in the game. Bowling Green led by 22 points at halftime and GB never got closer than 20 points in the second half. The 29-point defeat is Green Bay's worst since it lost 107-77 at Georgia Tech in 2015. UWGB did force 18 turnovers, and has now forced double-digit turnovers in every game this season
