WIAC Tournament Preview: Men's Hoops Takes ON UW-La Crosse

COMING UP: The UW-Stout men's basketball team will open the 2026 WIAC Men's Basketball Tournament (Presented by Culver's) tonight at UW-La Crosse. Opening tip from Mitchell Hall Gymnasium is set for 7 p.m.

ABOUT UW-STOUT: The University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils return to the WIAC Tournament for the first time since the 2023-24 season, when Stout captured a thrilling 93-91 overtime victory over UW-La Crosse in the first round. UW-Stout enters the WIAC Tournament as the sixth seed with a 9-16 overall record and a 5-9 mark in conference play, averaging 69.0 points per game while allowing 70.0. The Blue Devils shoot 41.3 percent from the field and connect on 7.9 three-pointers per contest at a 31.5 percent clip, while adding 11.6 free throws per game. Stout's strength has been on the glass, outrebounding opponents 37.2 to 34.6 per game for a +2.6 margin, and defensively the Blue Devils average 7.3 steals and 4.0 blocks per game.
Aidan Shore is 16th in the nation with 56 total blocks, averaging 2.33 a game. Collin Vick is among the league's leading rebounders, pulling down 8.1 boards a game and 2.7 offensive rebounds, He has grabbed double digit rebounds nine times this season. He also leads the WIAC with 4.1 assists a game. AJ Uttech is scoring 11.2 points per game and has scored in double figures 12 times, including four 20-point games. Domanyck Schwarzenberger leads the Blue Devils with 12.1 points a game, He has scored in double figures 16 times and is shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc. If the Blue Devils win tonight they will face #1 seed and regular season champion UW-Whitewater on Thursday, Feb. 26

LOOKING AT THE OPPONENT – UW-LA CROSSE: The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles finished the regular season as the third seed in the WIAC with a strong 19-6 overall record and swept the regular-season series (72-50, 86-78) against Stout. La Crosse leads the league in scoring offense at 81.0 points per game while holding opponents under 74 points per contest. The Eagles also excel in ball control, averaging just 9.3 turnovers per game, and have won five straight games at Mitchell Hall entering postseason play. The Eagles are led by Sam Grieger's 25.7 points per game and 51.6 shooting percentage. JJ Paider averaged 14.4 points a contest as the Eagles have won 8 of their last 9 games.
