A LOOK AT UW-STOUT:
  • The Blue Devils are off to their best start since the 2006-07 season when they opened with a five game winning streak. That team went on to win their third straight conference title and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
  • Bailey Diersen leads the Blue Devils in scoring with a 17.0 average, scoring 16 and 18 points in the two games she played. the off guard leads the team in rebounds with 7.0. Diersen did not play in the second meeting with St. Olaf. She was scheduled for an interview for graduate school.
  • Amber Fabeck has had a solid start for the Blue Devils. After scoring seven points in the season opener, the 6-3 post player poured in a career-best 22 points against St. Catherine, then added 13 points in the rematch with St. Olaf. Fabeck is averaging 14.0 points and 6.3 rebounds.
  • Kyncaide Diedrich is averaging 11.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds. Last season's leading scorer, Diedrich had a rare off night against St. Catherine, not hitting a bucket from the floor. She did make all four free throw attempts. Diedrich bounced back nicely against St. Olaf, scoring 19 points and hitting 8 of 19 shots from the floor.
  • Shannan Watkins has returned to the floor after missing more than a season and a half due to injury. The guard from Hoover, Ala., is averaging 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds. Watkins scored 11 points in the season opener against St. Olaf.
  • Liz Oswald has started all three games and has showed some staying power, leading the team minutes played with 35.0. Oswald is averaging 5.7 points and has popped a pair of 3-pointers.
  • Carolyn Feddema is doubling her career averaging in rebounds, pulling down 5.3 per game. Coming into the season, the senior, who was featured in the WIAC's Culver's Spotlight last week, was averaging 2.6 boards per contest. Feddema has started all three games. She started 19 games during her sophomore season.
  • As a team, the Blue Devils are averaging 60.7 points and giving up 49.3.
  • Not surprisingly with three wins under their belt, the Blue Devils are outscoring their opponents in every quarter. But the third quarter has been their strongest quarter, outscoring their opponents by an average of 17.3-11.7.

  • The Blue Devils return three seniors - Kyncaide Diedrich (Athens), Bailey Diersen (Greenville) and Carolyn Feddema (Buffalo, Minn).
  • Diedrich, the league's leading scorer last season with 15.9 points per game, was a first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) pick, as well as being selected to the all-defensive team. Diedrich was third in the WIAC in rebounds and third in steals.

  • After more than a year out due to injury, Shannan Watkins returns, adding another experienced player to the lineup. Watkins averaged almost seven points during the 2015-16 season and was scoring more than 10 points when she went down nine games into the 2016-17 season.
  • Expect to see Becky Fesenmaier, junior college transfer Kelsey Krainz, Kara Griswold, Keysha Hazelton and Katie Sukanen see time in the guard positions, along with Lexi Todd, Shayna Hohlfelder and Gina Palasz.
  • Underneath the basket, Amber Fabeck acclimated herself to the conference last year and, at 6-foot-3, stretches her post position. Stout (2-0) outscored the Wildcats 19-8 in the third quarter to overcome a 26-25 halftime deficit. The Wildcats (0-2) outscored Stout 20-14 in the fourth quarter. Fabeck scored Stout's last eight points of the game, but Stout's final field goal of the night came with just over two minutes left in the contest. The Blue Devils were 21 of 26 from the line. | Game Story and Statistics

The win was the first for Blue Devil coach Hannah Iverson, who made her collegiate head coaching debut a successful one. Bailey Diersen led three Stout players in double figures with a game-high 16 points. Kyncaide Diedrich and Shannan Watkins, who returned to the court after missing all of last season and most of the previous season, each tossed in 11 points. | Game Story and Statistics

SCOUTING HAMLINE UNIVERSITY
  • The Pipers are off to a fast start this season, winning their first three games before falling to Bethany Lutheran College Saturday. Reilly Geistfeld, off a 28 point performance against Bethany, is leading the team with a 15.8 points per game average and has scored in double digits in three of four games. The Pipers clean the glass by committee, with Chanel Anderson-Manning leads the team with 4.0 boards per game. As a team, the Pipers are averaging 73.0 points per game and are giving up 45.8.
  • The 3-0 break from the gate was the first time Hamline had started like that since 1986-87. In the Crown game, the Pipers set a pair of records (fewest points allowed in a half -- 5 and fewest points allowed in a game -- 25) The Pipers last season won only four games last season.  In the first three games, Alex was able to clear his bench every time. The Pipers have forced 127 turnovers in the first four game.
  • The Pipers were picked to finish ninth in the MIAC, according to a preseason poll. Hamline returns their top 10 scorers from last year, but there are also nine new faces who are itching to show their stuff. The senior guard had four 20 point games, including a career-high 27-point performance against Carleton last January. She also stole the ball 63 times, second-most among all MIAC players. Molly Wampler led the country last year in free throw percentage, completing her tosses at a remarkable 93.6 percentage clip.

THE PIPERS LAST TIME OUT
  • Two games in 22 hours proved to be no obstacle for HU women's basketball forward Reilly Geistfeld. The junior scored a career high 28 points -- just seven less than she achieved in the first three games of the season -- in the Pipers' 78-70 loss to Bethany Lutheran Saturday at Hutton Arena. Geistfeld connected on 10 of 16 shots -- including four from six from three-point range -- to pace the Piper offense. Her previous high game was 24 at Crown in the season opener last year. Chan'el Anderson-Manningadded 10 and a team high seven rebounds but HU dropped to 3-1 overall on the season.
  • Hamline continued to pester their foes. BLC coughed up 27 turnovers, running the early count to 127. HU also forced the Vikings into tough three-point tries of which they only made four of 15. But the Vikings were able to get points in the paint and fast break baskets to pull ahead in the second half and gain the win.
