Netters down River Falls, tripped up by Green Knights

MENOMONIE (September 30, 2017) - UW-Stout split a pair of matches in their final triangular of the season Saturday at the South Courts. The Blue Devils opened with a morning 6-3 WIAC win over UW-River Falls and closed with a late afternoon 7-2 non-conference loss to St. Norbert College.

The Blue Devils improved to 2-1 in league play with the win over the Falcons. Katie Kreibich, Annie Sandry, Jenna Welke and Gabe Kelch all took singles wins, while Linsey Thisius and Kreibich and Ellen Miller and Sutton Beck captured doubles wins.

Kreibich downed Molly Deering, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Sandry defeated Krista Haglund, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Welke took a 6-0, 6-4, win over Karli Helland at No. 5 singles and Kelch captured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mary Schimanski. Thisius and Kreibich won at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, and Miller and Beck took a hard-fought 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.

Sandry and Kelch were the only Blue Devils to win two singles matches on the day.

Sandry defeated the Green Knights' Lauren Paulsen, finishing under the lights for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 3 singles.

Kelch moved up to No. 4 singles against St. Norbert where she defeated Claire Hetzel, 6-4, 6-4.

The Blue Devils (4-4, 2-1 WIAC) will close out the home portion of their schedule Friday, Oct. 6 when they host UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m.
