Blue Devils Put Together Strong Weekend at ITA Regionals and UW-Stout Invite

The UW-Stout women's tennis team put together a busy and successful weekend, competing at the ITA Regional Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College before returning home to host the first annual UW-Stout Invite on Sunday. The Blue Devils continued to build on the momentum from Wednesday's 5-2 victory over UW-River Falls, turning in strong individual and team performances throughout the weekend.

Six Blue Devils — Molly Garber, Gretchen Murphy, Prajna Hosamane, Joelle Smith, Lindsay Leuzinger and Braenna Stampf — represented UW-Stout at the ITA Regional Championships, with each competing in both singles and doubles.

In singles action, every Blue Devil advanced to at least the second round of their respective Gustie Invite draw. Garber led the way, winning her entire draw after defeating opponents from UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater, Buena Vista and St. Norbert College. Her run through the draw continued an impressive stretch of tennis for the Stout junior.

In doubles, Hosamane and Murphy continued their strong partnership at the regional championships, advancing to the semifinals for the second consecutive year. The duo earned a quarterfinal victory over a Gustavus Adolphus pairing to reach the final four of the draw.

After six Blue Devils competed in Minnesota, Stout hosted its first annual UW-Stout Invite on Sunday, welcoming UW-Eau Claire, UW-Superior and UW-River Falls to Menomonie. The event featured eight-player singles flights, giving several Blue Devils an opportunity to compete in a tournament-style format on their home courts.

Stampf, Maggie Hunter, Aspen Johnson, Olivia Mihalik, Mattie Schilling, Addie Schmitt and Megan Kokesh represented Stout at the home tournament. The Blue Devils won two of the three eight-player flights.

Stampf put together a dominant run through her draw, cruising to the flight championship while dropping just six games across her matches.

Schmitt also captured her flight, but had to earn it the hard way. After battling through a dramatic come-from-behind tiebreaker victory in the opening round, Schmitt defeated a UW-River Falls opponent in the semifinals before topping a UW-Eau Claire player in the championship match.

The weekend capped a strong four-day stretch for the Blue Devils, who opened the run with Wednesday's 5-2 victory over UW-River Falls — Stout's first WIAC victory since 2023. With strong performances across both tournament weekends and a growing group of players gaining valuable competitive experience, the Blue Devils continue to build momentum heading into the remainder of the fall season.
