MENOMONIE (September 3, 2017) - The UW-Stout tennis team got the season off on the right foot with an 8-1 win over Lawrence University Sunday at the South Courts.
No. 1 single player
Linsey Thisius (Jr, Wells, Minn) defeated Lindsay Holsen, 6-3, 6-1, and also teamed with
Jenna Welke (Sr, Chippewa Falls) to take a No. 1 doubles win by a score of 8-3.
Gabe Kelch (Jr, Menomonie), who last year played at No. 5 and 6 singles, jumped up to the No. 2 singles spot and downed Annie Harincar, 6-3, 6-4.
Katie Kreibich (Jr, Woodbury, Minn) and
Annie Sandry (So, Clara City, Minn) combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and each won their singles match. Kreibich decisioned Katie Nottberg, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, and Sandry defeated Alexis Shannon, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
Kennedy Kleist (Fr, Eau Claire) made her collegiate debut a successful one, downing Lindsey Lucas at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Ellen Miller (Sr, Racine) and
Sutton Beck (Sr, Franklin) combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Alexis Shannon and Tillie Teske.
The Blue Devils are 1-0 overall, while Lawrence dropped to 0-3 after opening their season Friday.
The Blue Devils return to action Saturday, Sept. 9 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire to take on the Blugolds in a 9 a.m. conference contest and the College of St. Benedict in a non-conference tilt at noon.
