MENOMONIE (September 15, 2017) - The match between UW-Stout and UW-Stevens Point ended under the lights, but before the lights went on, No. 1 singles player
Linsey Thisius scored a three-set win for the Blue Devils to clinch the match and Stout went on to a 7-2 conference win.
Stout took the top two doubles matches to go into singles competition leading 2-1.
The Pointers won at No. 2 singles to move the score to 2-2, but Freshman
Kennedy Kleist made quick work of Elizabeth Wilichowsk at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, to give the Blue Devils the lead back at 3-2.
Katie Kreibich took a 7-5, 6-4, win at No. 3 singles.
Thisius gave Stout the fifth and deciding match at No. 1 singles, downing Emily Kleist in the first set, 6-2, but falling 6-4 in the second set. Thisius did not allow a game in the third set, taking the convincing win 6-0 in the hot, humid weather.
Jenna Welke at No. 4 singles lost her first set, 6-4, to Angelica Hernandez, but came back finish the match with 6-4, 6-2, wins in the final two sets.
Annie Sandry, at No. 5 singles had the longest match of the afternoon/evening. Sandry came back from losing the first set, 6-4, to take the second, 6-3. Sandry fell behind as much as 4-1 in the third set before taking the match with a 7-5 win.
Thisius and Kreibich won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and Welke and Sandry captured an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Sutton Beck and
Ellen Miller lost a close 8-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.
The Blue Devils are off until Sunday, Sept. 24 when they host Ripon College at 9 a.m. and Southwest Minnesota State University at 3 p.m. Ripon and Southwest will face off at noon.
