ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 30, 2017) -
Derek Graves matched his UW-Stout best by striking out seven batters, but St. Thomas handed the Blue Devils a 4-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday at Koch Diamond. The Blue Devils lost the second game, 2-0.
The Tommies (7-8) got to Graves with a single run in the first, then added two in the third and a single run in the fourth.
The Blue Devils (3-12) put up a run in the sixth innings when designated hitter
Jon Krueger drove home
Jordan Wilson. Wilson went 2-for-2 for the Blue Devils. Despite the nearly two week break,
Matt Emmer stayed hot at the plate going 2-for-3. The Tommies outhit Stout, 6-5.
The Tommies were led by Sam Cobbs who was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
In the second game,
Luke Eide notched six strikeouts, but the Tommies got all the runs they would need in the second innings, touching Eide for two runs.
The tally for hits was the same, with the Tommies outhitting Stout, 6-5. Krueger was 2-for-3 for Stout. Emmer, moved to the lead-off spot, went 0-for-3 to end his hitting streak at four games. Emmer has reached safely in eight of 11 games this season.
The Tommies had six players who finished with one hit.
Stout is off until Saturday, April 8 when they open WIAC play to by hosting UW-Platteville. The Blue Devils and the Pioneers will clash the following day, Sunday, April 9.
