Box Score UW-Stout 9, Lasell College 6
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 15, 2017) - UW-Stout had been having trouble getting runners across the plate to score, but the Blue Devils took care of that early and went on to a 9-6 win over Lasell College at the Gene Cusic Classic Wednesday.
The Blue Devils (3-7) ran up three runs in the bottom of the first, then tacked on four more in the second inning to take a 7-2 lead.
Jordan Wilson doubled in a pair of runs in the first inning and
Matt Emmer recorded his second sacrifice fly in two days to give Stout a 3-0 lead.
The Lasers scored two runs in the top of the second to pull to within 3-2.
Jack Hemsath doubled in a run in the second inning. Wilson's double to center field brought in three runs and Stout led 7-2. Lasell pulled to within 7-4 with two runs in the third. The teams then chipped away at each other the rest of the game.
Stout's
Joel Hollow scored from third in the fifth inning on a wild pitcher before Lasell scored twice in the seventh inning to make it 8-6. Stout added the final run of the game in the eighth inning. Emmer's fielder's choice plated
Noah Brown for the final run of the game.
Wyatt Ernstmeyer came on in relief in the top of the ninth and faced four batters, recording three strikeouts to seal the win.
Wilson was the big offensive winner for the Blue Devils. Wilson went 3-for-5 with two doubles and recorded five RBI. Hemsath, Brown and
Jon Krueger all went 2-for-3 for Stout.
Tyler Christensen pitched 6.1 innings to record his second win of the season. The senior, who is in his first year with the team, recorded eight strikeouts, walked three and scattered 12 hits.
Casey Ryan pitched 1.2 innings of relief, striking out four. Blue Devils pitchers recorded 15 strikeouts on the day. Lasell left 13 runners on base.
Brett Sherron and Brandon Valentin were both 3-for-5 for the Lasers. Valentin had two RBI.
The win marked Stout's first in Florida this season. The Blue Devils are off Thursday, March 16, and return to action to play both Western Connecticut and North Park, Friday, March 17.
