A LOOK AT UW-STOUT: Kyncaide Diedrich,
Jenna Goldsmith, and
Bailey Diersen, are all averaging more than 10 points per contest. Diedrich leads the Blue Devils with 13.8 points, followed by Diersen with 11.1 and Goldsmith 10.6. Diedrich has led Stout in scoring the last four of five games and has scored 15, 22, 17, and 20 points respectively the last four outings, before scoring 10 against Stevens Point. Diedrich ranks fourth , Diersen 12th and Goldsmith 14th in the WIAC.
Anna Brown, who is averaging 8.4 points, is 19th. Brown leads the team in shooting percentage, knocking down 43-90 shots (.478) to rank sixth in the WIAC. Goldsmith leads the team in rebounds (6.8), followed by the 5-foot-5 Diedrich with 6.2. Goldsmith is third in the league in rebounds and Diedrich is ranked seventh. Goldsmith is third in blocked shots (1.64). Diedrich, who has assumed much of the play at point guard since
Shannan Watkins was injured, is second in the league lead in assists, averaging 2.79, As a team, Stout is third in the WIAC in scoring at 67.7 and is giving up 69.5. Stout is the conference leader in free throw percentage (.730, 233-319) |
2016-17 Statistics
CONFERENCE STANDINGS: The Blue Devils are projected to finish sixth in the WIAC. Last season, the Blue Devils were the highest scoring offense in the WIAC, averaging 69.4 points per game. They also were second in the WIAC in rebounds per game, with 41.2 per game. The Blue Devils look to improve on these even more this season and will look to their six returners to take them there.
STOUT LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout couldn't find the basket, shooting only 38.6 percent from the field on the game, as the Stevens Point Pointers took the win in Johnson Fieldhouse on Dewey Mintz Court. Stout's
Jenna Goldsmith scored 13 points, grabbed eight boards, and blocked two shots. Goldsmith got off to a good start, as she scored the first point of the contest on an assist from
Carolyn Feddema. Stevens Point (10-4, 2-1 WIAC) then responded with a jumper from Lauren Anklam to tie the game 2-2. Point would hold the lead from then on. Point would continue to hold an average 10 point lead throughout the first half. Stout dug into the lead in the begging of the second quarter, bringing the game to within seven on a Goldsmith three pointer, but Point again jumped on the gas, going on a few runs to finish the game on top, 80-57.
Kyncaide Diedrich scored 10 and dropped four assists on the game. Autumn Hennes scored 17 to lead the game for the Pointers.. |

SCOUTING UW-STEVENS POINT
- The Pointers started off the season by winning seven of their first eight games, but have since won two of their last five games. Autumn Hennes tops the league in scoring, tossing in 15.1 points per contest. and has led the team in scoring in six games, including both conference games, and scored a season-best 27 points in a win over Illinois Wesleyan. Hennes is the league-leader in free throw percentage (31-35, .886). Lauren Anklam, who leads the league in assists (3.38) and is second in the league in steals (2.31) and minutes played (32.9), is averaging 10.5 points. Anklam is also the team's leading 3-point threat, connecting on 17-of-63 shots beyond the arc. The Pointers are second in the league in free throw percentage (.731), behind only Stout (.738). Taylor Douglas is the team's leading rebounder with 6.2 boards. As a team, the Pointers are averaging 64.0 points per contest and giving up 58.9.

POINTERS LAST TIME OUT
- Five Pointers scored in double digits as the Pointers held off a late push from visiting UW-La Crosse to pick up a conference win, 75-71, on Saturday at Berg Gym. Senior Autumn Hennes led all players with 18 points in the game. Fellow seniors Lauren Anklam and Taylor Douglas put up 15 and 14 points, respectively, while juniors Taylor Barrett and Lexi Roland added 11 points apiece.

LAST YEAR WHEN STOUT ANDÂ STEVENSÂ POINTÂ MET
- The Pointers won all three contests last year, taking a 69-61 win in Menomonie in January, then captured a 63-51 win in Stevens Point in February. The Pointers put an end to the Blue Devils' season with a 55-44 win in the WIAC quarterfinal round.

SCOUTING UW-LA CROSSEÂ
- The Eagles started off the season at 5-2 under first-year coach Karen Middleton, but have since lost five of six, including a conference opening overtime loss to UW-Whitewater. Elise DeNoyer leads the team with 12.4 points per contest, followed by MaKenzie Miller with 11.6 points. DeNoyer leads the WIAC in rebounds at 7.9. The Eagles are averaging 60.5 points per contest and give up 62.2.

THE EAGLES LAST TIME OUT
- La Crosse earned a 64-55 over UW-Eau Claire Wednesday night at Zorn Arena. UWL snapped a five-game losing streak to UW-Eau Claire with the victory Wednesday, as head coach Karen Middleton picked up her first WIAC victory.
- UWL shot 30.6% from the field, including 25.0% (five-of-20) from three-point range, and 90.6% (29-of-32) at the free throw line. The 29 free throws made was a season high, and the Eagles hit 23-of-24 from the line in the second half.  Alyssa Clemment led UWL with a career-high 17 points. She also added nine rebounds, also a career-high. Miller recorded her second double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Annie Schumacher, Rachel Atchison, and Clemment each had a pair of assists in the win. Â
- UW-Eau Claire shot 36.5% from the field, including 23.8% (five-of-21) from three-point range and 63.2% (12-of-19) at the line. Maddie Dunathan and Alleah Voigt had 12 points each for the Blugolds.  Arien Brennan added seven rebounds.

LAST YEAR WHEN STOUT AND LA CROSSE MET
- The teams split last season, with each winning on the opponents floor. The Blue Devils won Jan. 21, 71-68, in La Crosse and the Eagles turned the tables, winning 60-58 Feb. 3 in Menomonie.

JOINING THE MIAC?: For the second year in a row, the Blue Devils will see considerable action with the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Stout opens the season with five straight MIAC opponents - Augsburg College, St. Mary's University, the College of St. Benedict, Hamline University, St. Catherine University and Gustavus Adolphus College before finishing up the MIAC schedule with Bethel University and the Carleton College at the Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells the end of December. Stout played six of the same teams last year, and added a pair of MIAC schools to the schedule to bring that total up to eight. - that's three-quarters of the 12 MIAC women's basketball teams.

THE COACHES:
UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (463-318) is in his 30th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships under Thomas' tutelage. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record. .
UW-STEVENS POINT:
Shirley Egner (518-224) is in her 28th season as head coach of the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team and is the all-time winningest coach in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history..Over the last 14Â seasons, Coach Egner has guided the Pointers to an average of nearly 23 wins per season and the team's
319-87Â record over that span is the best mark of any WIAC team.
UW-LA CROSSE:
Karen Middleton (69-128 overall/ 6-9 La Crosse) is in her first season at UW-La Crosse and her seventh season overall. Prior to working at Cal State Fullerton as an associate head coach, Middleton was the head women's basketball coach at Western Carolina University (Cullowhee, North Carolina) for six years from 2009-15.
THE ROAD TO 400 WINS:
Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
STOUT IN THE WIAC TOURNAMENT: Overall, UW-Stout is 19-10 in the WIAC Championship tournament. Stout is 11-3 in the first round, 4-7 in the semi-finals and 4-0 in the finals. The Pointers hold a 3-2 lead when the teams have met in the tournament. The Pointers have won the last two tournament meetings, an 82-74 win in 2009-10 and a 76-64 win during the 2008-09 season. |
