2014-15 StatisticsSTOUT LAST TIME OUT: Stout got off to a fast start over UW-Stevens Point Wednesday, but the Pointers put the brakes on the Blue Devils in the second half and Stevens Point downed Stout, 63-51, at Berg Gymnasium. The Blue Devils got a balanced scoring attack in the first half with eight players scoring and Stout, as a team, shot 55.2 percent (16-29) to take a 38-31 halftime lead. Oshkosh Story and StatsALUMNI DAY: The Blue Devils will celebrate a string of WIAC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 13 for the annual Alumni Day. The alumni game is scheduled for 11 a.m. The Blue Devil teams from 2004-05, 2005-06, and 2006-07 will gather to celebrate three straight conference and conference tournament titles throughout the day. The 2004-05 team finished the season at 24-7 overall, 12-4 in the WIAC. The 2005-06 team finished the year at 22-8 overall, 12-4 in the WIAC. The 2006-07 team finished the season at 23-6 overall, 13-3 in the WIAC. The 2004-05 and 2005-06 teams advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
During the three season run where Stout went 69-21 overall, post player Kelsey Duoss was a two-time All-American, three-times earned first team all-conference honors, was twice the WIAC player of the year and a three time all-region pick. Duoss was later selected to the All-Decade team by D3hoops.com. But Duoss was far from a solo act and was surrounded by quality cast of players. Lindsey Erichsen, Erin Churchill, Molly Hendricks and
Savanah Oeltjen were all-WIAC selections. Duoss, Oeltjen, Amanda Geissler, Lindsey Geissler, Mary Schaeffer, Joanna Bird, Jenny McDermid, and Dani Boese were members of all three teams. Coach
Mark Thomas was selected as WIAC coach of the year all three seasons.
These Blue Devils were a team in the true sense of the word. Duoss garnered a lot of attention, but it was many different players who understood their roles in the making of the teams. Defensively, the Blue Devil pressure got to many a team. Offensively, the Blue Devils were second to none.
The Blue Devils would host nine WIAC tournament games - and two NCAA Regional tournaments - over the three seasons after earning the top WIAC seed each year, and would win all nine conference tournament games to claim three consecutive tournament titles, the first WIAC school to accomplish that feat. But it was not without some epic battles, in particular with UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh.
The Blue Devils' 2004-05 conference season got off to a rocky start, winning only one of the first four games. But the Blue Devils would drop only one more conference game and went on to defeat Eau Claire, 70-65, in overtime in the WIAC semi-final game when Lindsey Geissler scored five and Kelsey Duoss four in the extra period to push Stout into the championship game where they ran past Oshkosh, 68-53. The 2005-06 team put together a 10-game winning streak, including an 84-70 win over Stevens Point in the WIAC championship game. The 2006-07 team put together a 10-game conference winning streak early in the season and went on to down Eau Claire, 73-61, in the WIAC championship game.

La Crosse Game Story and StatisticsLAST TIME STOUT AND WHITEWATER MET: Whitewater used a 12-0 run midway through the third period to put some separation between themselves and UW-Stout and went on to a 72-60 win Jan. 6 at Kachel Gymnasium in a WIAC opener for both teams. Stout's
Kyleigh Hebert led all scorers with 15 points, going 6-of-7 from the field.
Bailey Diersen came off the bench to score 12 points. The Warhawks had four players in double figures, led by Lisa Palmer's 14. Maddie Bare finished with 12. Malia Smith chipped in 11 points and Andrea Meinert tossed in 10 points. |
Story and Statistics SCOUTING UW-STEVENS POINT: After opening the conference season at 6-1, the Pointers have dropped a couple of games over the last two weeks. The Pointers needed overtime to down UW-Stout, Jan. 27, then lost the next game to UW-Oshkosh, 61-59. Ranked 16th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, the Pointers turned around to down 15th UW-Whitewater, only to tumble by 10 points to 18th UW-River Falls Saturday. Lauren Anklam leads the Pointers with 11.6 points, followed closeley by Allie Miceli with 10.7. Miceli tops out the league in rebounds with 8.5 caroms. The Pointers average 63.1 points and give up 56.3 points, second to UW-Oshkosh. |
2015-16 StatisticsPOINTERS LAST TIME OUT: Taylor Douglas scored a career-high 21 points off the bench but No. 18 UW-River Falls outscored No. 16 UW-Stevens Point 28-13 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Pointers 77-67 on Feb. 6 at the Karges Center. |
Game Story and StatisticsLAST TIME STOUT AND STEVENS POINT MET: UW-Stout fought back a 14th-ranked Stevens Point late regulation and overtime push, but it wasn't enough as the Pointers beat Stout in overtime, 69-61. The Blue Devils played some of their best basketball of the season. The Blue Devils were led by
Jenna Goldsmith and
Bailey Diersen. |
Story and StatisticsJOINING THE MIAC?: When the Blue Devils play St. Mary's University, it will mark the final regular season game with a member of the MIAC. With the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) freeing up their schedule to allow for more non-conference games, and UW-Superior leaving the WIAC, freeing up two game spots, it became obvious the Stout would play more MIAC schools in the future. Stout will face off against six MIAC schools - St. Benedict, Gustavus Adolphus, Augsburg College, Hamline University, St. Catherine and St. Mary's University - that's half of the 12 MIAC women's basketball teams.
