A LOOK AT UW-STOUT:Â
Kyncaide Diedrich and
Bailey Diersen are leading the Blue Devils this season. Diedrich is the leading scorer for Stout, averaging 16.2 points per contest, while Diersen is the second leading scorer with 12.8 points per game. Diedrich has scored in double figures in four os five games this season.
Jenna Goldsmith is Stout's defensive and rebounding anchor, with six blocks on the season and more than eight rebounds per game. The f5-foot-5 Diedrich also gets in on the rebounding action, averaging 6.8 rebounds, and totaling 15 of those rebounds on the offensive end. Shannon Watkins is the playmaker on the squad, tallying 25 assists (5.0 per game) and also finds the scoresheet with 8.2 points per game. Stout's high-flying offense looks to propel them into the tough WIAC part of their schedule in the beginning of January. |Â
2016-17 Statistics
CONFERENCE STANDINGS:Â The Blue Devils are projected to finish sixth in the WIAC. Last season, the Blue Devils were the highest scoring offense in the WIAC, averaging 69.4 points per game. They also were second in the WIAC in rebounds per game, with 41.2 per game. The Blue Devils look to improve on these even more this season and will look to their six returners to take them there.
STOUT LAST TIME OUT:Â The Blue Devils held a 14 point lead in the first period, jumping out to a 12-0 lead before St. Catherine University got on the board. But the Wildcats shot no worse than 50 percent in any of the periods and went on to an 82-74 win over the Blue Devils in St. Paul, Minn., Sunday.

SCOUTING NORTHLAND COLLEGE: The Lumberjils haven't found a win yet on the season, much like their other UMAC opponents. Bethany Best leads the team in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and minutes for Northland. On the season, she averages 13.0 points per contest, 8.3 rebounds. 48 percent shooting from the field and 34.5 minutes per game. Nicole Huber also contributes for the Lumberjils, she averages 14.5 points a contest and is the team's leading assist getter with 2.8 per game. |Â

Story and Statistics
JOINING THE MIAC?:Â For the second year in a row, the Blue Devils will see considerable action with the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Stout opens the season with five straight MIAC opponents - Augsburg College, St. Mary's University, the College of St. Benedict, Hamline University and St. Catherine University, before playing finishing up the MIAC schedule with Gustavus Adophus. Stout played the same teams last year - that's half of the 12 MIAC women's basketball teams.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout:Â
Mark Thomas (460-313) is in his 30th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships under Thomas' tutelage. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record.Â
NORTHLAND:Â
Daryle Tucker begins his second season at the helm of Northland College. Tucker arrived in Ashland, WI from NCAA Division III program Green Mountain College, where he spent three years as head men's basketball coach. Tucker coached the men's basketball program at Green Mountain College. In his three years there, he took Green Mountain basketball from zero players to a full roster through active recruitment practices. Before, that Tucker was the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Southeastern University. In his lone year, Tucker led the program to a second place finish in the NCCAA II South Region Conference while maintaining a team GPA of 3.34
THE ROAD TO 400 WINS:
Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
CONFERENCES:Â UW-Stout is a member of the eight-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater.
UP NEXT:Â The Blue Devils open a three game homestand when they host UW-Superior, Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., then will host the University of Dubuque, Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Stout will close the first semester of play when they host Gustavus Adolphus College, Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
