University of Dubuque (2-4, 0-0 IIAC) Tuesday, Dec. 8 in the first half of a double header with the men's programs. The women are scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m., the men at 7 p.m.

A LOOK AT UW-STOUT: The Blue Devils saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to St. Kate's. The Blue Devils will have had nearly 10 days off to prepare for Dubuque.

2015-16 StatisticsA UW-STOUT PREVIEW: UW-Stout has six letterwinners back from a year ago and a roster that includes four seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and seven freshmen - these totals include three transfers (one sophomore, one junior, one senior). Three of the top-five scorers return, including junior forward
Jenna Goldsmith, who led the WIAC with a .542 field goal percentage and topped the team with 12.0 points per contest. Senior guard
Kyleigh Hebert contributed 9.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils will play three of their first eight games at home - all three in November.
Jenna Goldsmith earned All-WIAC honors last season and averaged 12 points per game and was second on the team in rebounds with 6.0 rebounds. Goldsmith scored a career-high 21 points against UW-Oshkosh.
Kyleigh Hebert has been a regular since transferring to Stout midway through her freshman year andlast season led the team in assists and averaged 9.0 points. Hebert will work some at the point, but will predominately be out on the wing.

2014-15 StatisticsSTOUT LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout simply ran out of time as they tried to send the game into overtime and dropped a nail-biter, 81-79, to St. Catherine University, Nov. 29 at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Wildcats extended their season-opening winning streak to five games when Mari Lee scored with 2.8 seconds remaining to break a 79-79 tie. Stout could not penetrate the Wildcats' defense and could not get a shot off before the buzzer to see their own winning streak end at three games. |

Spartan StatisticsTHE SPARTANS LAST TIME OUT: Dubuque lled by nine points in the first half, but lost in overtime to UW-Platteville Pioneers 79-67, Dec. 5. UD's team, hampered by the flu bug this week, would miss some key free throws down the stretch in regulation allowing the host Pioneers to tie the game at 63-63. The Spartans were held to just four points in overtime and UD's bench would be held scoreless while the Pioneers bench pumped in 33 points. The Spartans were led in scoring by Abbey Meyer's 21 points, Emily Brinker finished with 19 points, 10 defensive rebounds, and five blocks. Braana Steen finished with 15 points.The game with Stout is the third in a series of three consecutive games the Spartans played with WIAC schools. Dubuque defeated UW-La Crosse, 77-68, Dec. 2. |
Story and Box ScoreLAST TIME STOUT AND DUBUQUE MET: Dubuque's Kayla Springer hit back-to-back 3-pointers early in the first half to cut an eight point UW-Stout lead down to two points and it was off to the races for the visiting Spartans as they handed the Blue Devils an 87-62 loss in the championship game of the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, Nov. 30, 2014, at Johnson Fieldhouse. Dubuque, behind 13 first half points by Meggie Schmidt, 11 by Abbey Meyer and 10 by Springer, ran off to a 50-35 halftime lead and built their lead to as much as 27 points with five minutes left in the game. |
Game Story and StatisticsJOINING THE MIAC?: With the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) freeing up their schedule to allow for more non-conference games, and UW-Superior leaving the WIAC, freeing up two game spots, it became obvious the Stout would play more MIAC schools in the future. Stout will face off against six MIAC schools - St. Benedict, Gustavus Adolphus, Augsburg College, Hamline University, St. Catherine and St. Mary's University - that's half of the 12 MIAC women's basketball teams.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (451-297) is in his 28th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships under Thomas' tutelage. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record.
Dubuque: Former UW-Stout assistant coach
Mark Noll is in his eighth year as the head coach of the Spartans and is the all-time wins leader at Dubuque. Last season, the Spartans captured their first-ever IIAC regular season championship. Assisting Noll is former UW-Stout All-American Kelsey (Duoss) Steinhagen.
THE ROAD TO 400 WINS:
Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
CONFERENCES: UW-Stout is a member of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater. Superior left the WIAC after last season.
UP NEXT: The Blue Devils will be at the College of St. Scholastica, Tuesday, Dec. 15 before taking a break during the Christmas holiday. Stout will resume play at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 29-30.
