THIS WEEK'S GAMES: It will be a busy five days as UW-Stout plays four games over a five-day time period. The Blue Devils (0-1, 0-0 WIAC) will be at the Gustavus Adolphus College Classic where they will meet
Gustavus Adolphus College (1-0, 0-0 MIAC), Friday, Nov. 20, then will meet
Simpson College (1-1, 0-0 IIAC), Saturday, Nov. 21 in St. Peter, Minn. The Blue Devils turn around quickly and travel to Augsburg College, Monday, Nov. 23 and host Hamline University, Tuesday, Nov. 24. Simpson will face UW-River Falls at the Gustavus Classic before meeting Stout. The Blue Devils have met Gustavus only once, that coming 35 years ago. Stout and Simpson have met only twice before, and that coming in the NCAA tournament, with both teams taking a win on their opponent's court.

UW-STOUT THIS SEASON: UW-Stout has six letterwinners back from a year ago and a roster that includes four seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and seven freshmen - these totals include three transfers (one sophomore, one junior, one senior). Three of the top-five scorers return, including junior forward
Jenna Goldsmith, who led the WIAC with a .542 field goal percentage and topped the team with 12.0 points per contest. Senior guard
Kyleigh Hebert contributed 9.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils will play three of their first eight games at home - all three in November.
Jenna Goldsmith earned All-WIAC honors last season and averaged 12 points per game and was second on the team in rebounds with 6.0 rebounds. Goldsmith scored a career-high 21 points against UW-Oshkosh.
Kyleigh Hebert has been a regular since transferring to Stout midway through her freshman year andlast season led the team in assists and averaged 9.0 points. Hebert will work some at the point, but will predominately be out on the wing.

2014-15 StatisticsSTOUT LAST TIME OUT: In a fast-paced game, UW-Stout fell to the College of St. Benedict, 69-64, in the season opener for both team Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse. In the first game for both programs since the NCAA switched the women's game to quarters over the previous half, the Blue Devils trailed 19-18 after the first quarter, but took the halftime lead, 33-30. Stout held a 49-46 lead at the end of the third quarter, but St. Benedict outscored Stout 23-15 in the final stanza. |
Story and Box ScoreSCOUTING GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS: The Gusties will feature a lineup of 16 total players, including two seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, and five first-years. These numbers include returners Lindsey Johnson and Mikayla Miller. Last season, Johnson earned All-Conference honors, was second on the team in scoring (10 ppg) and field goal percentage (46.6), averaged 4.1 rebounds per game, led the team in three-point shooting percentage (41.4), and ranked fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (81.6). Miller became the first Gustavus rookie to earn a spot on the All-Conference team since the 1996-97 season, started in all 26 games games as first-year, and led the team in scoring 15 times. She ranked third in the conference in points per game (16.2), second in minutes per game (34.7), and third in assists (69) and steals (49). In Gustavus single-season history, Miller ranks ninth in points (446), sixth in free throws (100), and third in steals (78). |
Gusties StatisticsTHE GUSTIES LAST TIME OUT: Trailing 36-35 at halftime, the Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team was able to make adjustments at halftime and take the second half by storm, eventually coming away with a 79-59 season opening victory at Martin Luther College on Monday evening. The win marks the third consecutive season the Gusties have won their season opener. Mikayla Miller led all scorers with 20 points. Justine Lee chipped in 13 points. |

SCOUTING SIMPSON COLLEGE: The Storm lost their season opener, 60-57, to Nebraska Wesleyan in the teams' opener at the Lakeland College Muskie Tournament, but came back to win the consolation contest with a 77-58 win over host Lakeland. The Storm will play UW-River Falls Friday before meeting the Blue Devils on Saturday. Mackenzie Haupt returns as the Storm's leading scoring, averaging 10.5 points last season. Britney Boland averaged 7.8 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds. Katie Ahrenholtz averaged 6.4 points last season and Maddie Bosworth avearged 5.9 points. After two games, Bosworth leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points. Noreen Morrow is currently averaging 12.0 points. |
Storm StatisticsTHE STORM LAST TIME OUT: Three players scored in double-figures and the Storm went 19 of 21 from the free throw line as Simpson won 77-58 over the Lakeland College Muskies on Saturday afternoon in the Lakeland Tournament consolation game.Maddie Bosworth and Noreen Morrow scored 15 points each to lead the Storm and Britney Boland followed up with 13. Morrow also reeled in 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. Apart from trailing less than 90 seconds into the game, Simpson dominated on the afternoon, leading by as many as 21. |
Story and Box ScoreLAST TIME STOUT AND SIMPSON MET: The programs have had an interesting history together, twice in the NCAA Division III playoffs. In 2006, the Blue Devils went to Indianola, Iowa, and ruined the Storm's party, beating Simpson, 78-68, in the first game at the sectional meet. The following season, Simpson returned the favor, coming to Menomonie and knocking the Blue Devils out of the NCAA tournament, 91-86, at Johnson Fieldhouse. | Game Story and Statistics
JOINING THE MIAC?: With the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) freeing up their schedule to allow for more non-conference games, and UW-Superior leaving the WIAC, freeing up two game spots, it became obvious the Stout would play more MIAC schools in the future. Stout will face off against six MIAC schools - St. Benedict, Gustavus Adolphus, Augsburg College, Hamline University, St. Catherine and St. Mary's University - that's half of the 12 MIAC women's basketball teams.

THE COACHES: UW-Stout: Mark Thomas (448-295) is in his 28th year as the coach of the Blue Devils. Thomas has led his teams to 10 national playoff berths, nine times in the NCAA. A six-time WIAC coach of the year, the Blue Devils have won five conference titles and four conference tournament championships under Thomas' tutelage. His teams have twice been to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Thomas is the first WIAC coach to have reached 400 career wins. Thomas also has the most wins of any Stout basketball coach, either men's or women's. Dwain Mintz coached the men's basketball program for 27 years and compiled a 385-280 record.
Gustavus Adolphus: Laurie Kelly is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Gustavus women's basketball team in 2015.
Simpson College: In 28 years on the sidelines,
Brian Niemuth has transformed the women's basketball program at Simpson into one of the most well-respected in the Iowa Conference, the region and the nation. Niemuth's up-tempo, full-court style of play produces points - and wins - in bunches. Niemuth also serves as Simpson's Director of Athletics.
THE ROAD TO 400 WINS:
Mark Thomas' first collegiate win came the second game of his first season when his Blue Devils, which had won only two games over the previous two years, defeated Mt. Senario, 73-44, in November, 1987. The wins came more often after that. Thomas got his 50th win, Feb. 28, 1991, 71-60, over Cardinal Stritch. The 100th win came Jan. 10, 1994, an 80-59 win over UM-Morris. No. 200 came at UW-River Falls, a 78-74 victory on Jan. 5, 2000. Thomas' 300th win came in overtime, a 76-68 decision over UW-Stevens Point, Jan. 29, 2005. Thomas' 400th win came at UW-Stevens Point, a 90-76 decision, Feb. 3, 2010.
CONFERENCES: UW-Stout is a member of the nine-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW- Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater. Superior left the WIAC after last season.
